Installed a Plextor 760A dvd burner a few months ago and it works flawlessly using Maxell DVD-R 8x. Now I want to try using dual layer discs. Plextor recommends Virbatim. Does anyone out there have any advice that might be helpful. Thanks

IMHO, Verbatims are the only DL Discs to yield consistantly excellent results....

Thanks gang for your replies. Going to spend the big bucks and get the Verbatim. They are pricey here in Canada, works out to $3.50 apiece if you buy a 20 lot at future shop. Dual layer media has been around for a few years now, don't know why the price hasen't come down much, if any at all. Later gang.

Definitely Verbatim DL!!!

slo_byrne: Test burn 1 of them. Make sure your other stand alone players will recognize them. +r DL is a totally different format. That means it's a little trickier for stand alone players to recognize them.

Also watch out for the burn programs. Nero6 has trouble with the layer break. DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn are very good DL burning programs.

BTW: Your plextor should have the ability to booktype. That'll help for stand alone compatability.Keep that in your mind in case you run into No Disc errors on your backups.

Good Luck!!

slo_byrne- a few things on the price of DL media - 1. Is that is more difficult to manufacturer & thererfore there is a higher in factory error rate ( Bad disc during Manufacturing ) These don't get out to the public but affect the cost by wasting materials that would otherwise go into making more good DL Disc ! And that cost is past on to the consumer ( You & I !) 2. You did say you live in Canada - Our Great Northern Neighbor ! And while their is nothing wrong with being from Canada - It seems that prices there are somewhat higher than here in the U.S.A from what I've seen posted by your fellow countrymen & women ! 3.0 in adition to the above mentioned reasons for higher prices in Dl media there is simply the economy of scale - More Single Layer media ( DVD+R's & DVD-R's ) are made than Dl Disc and whenever you have a big supply of anything the price per unit drops - be it Food , Dvd media or whatever !4. another possible reason could be that being the profit margins on the single layer media has fallen lately the DVd Media manufacturers have kept the Dl media Price high to pick up the slack ! all of these reasons and more can affect cost and availability of Dl Media ! Hope that explains some of it ! Happy Burning & GooD Day A'!
