Occasionally I have this problem where my comp starts up, then just after the XP loading screen, it appears to hang, then my monitor goes off (orange light), but the comp still runs. Then sometimes the XP loading screen has all sorts of colored artifacts on the screen, then instead of my Indentity screen, its a mess of white and blue blocks...which im stuck on. That happens sometimes too when im on my desktop. I then take out my video card (ATI 9800Pro), clean it a bit, put it back in then it works fine. Does it sound like its dying? The rest of my system is as follows
XP Pro
Intel 2.8
SATA Seagate 180GB
Asus P4P800E Mobo
1GB DDR

thanks in advance for your opinions!

oh yeah...this last time it happened, I would get this "Input Not Supported" Box....white with red letters in it, and sometimes the "Power cord not connected to Raedeon..." message, but my power supply IS connected...both error boxes look the same.....dont know if this makes a difference or not.....thanks again!

the first post sounds like you have windows set at too high a resolution, but the second post implys that your gcard has a problem. if you can check the card in another pc you could see if it says the same on that one.

thanks for the responses...but why only now would it do this? ive had my resolution and refresh rate the same as when i built the pc....have gone through games like FFXI, Halflife2, WoW...Battlefield 1942...and such and only now I get these problems...I dont think my res is an issue (though i could be wrong)...but how do i adjust refresh rate?

thanks again for the advice guys!

try booting up in safe mode, f8 when you switch it on. that will tell you if its the screen resolution or refresh rate, but it could be the gcard is on its last legs.

I have gone through 2 of the 9800 Pro cards in 2 years. ATI replaced them for nothing, because I had had them for less than 3 years. Your 9800 Pro is going belly up, believe me.

If you have had it less than 3 years, and it is a retail ATI card, go to the ATI site, and find the warranty section, and e-mail them from there, telling what problems you have. You should get an RMA number within minutes. I did.

Life is good!
