I just upgraded from a AMD 1600 to an AM2 X2 3800 oc'd to 2.4 1G pc6400 and I was wondering if anyone has a new Intel Conroe system to see how they compare. I was going to go with a Conroe but this was cheaper. Heres a log of Scarface Platinum I just backed up...

Is the new Intel systems that much quicker? I am really getting used to rebuilder and love the quality(pricey so it better look good..lol) I work alot of overtime at my job so a system that takes less time gives me more time to watch the movies.
EDIT**
sorry, didnt see other thread concerning cpu's. havent been feeling well and have a headache from hell!

I processed M:I 3, full disc (movie, menus, extras), at 3 passes, in 112 min (including ISO creation) with an E6400 at stock speeds... I have since OC'ed it to 2.88. If we can find a common title, I'll be happy to process and compare. I have CCE 2.67...

Would you happen to have Monster House? I already backed up my copy with CloneDVD2/AnyDVD but im going to do it with RB in a couple minutes. Im getting ready for work, but will post the results if thats a suitable title. Use 3 passes, no stealing from extras? Is that ok?

Thank you for the comparison. I do not own MI3, but I can see Conroe is plenty fast. Even if I oc'd my X2 3800 to 2.7(which is its max) I couldnt get close to yours@3.0 . Im very happy with the performance ive gotten, but wish I would have went Intel. The only things that held me back was price, and the fact that I went SFF. And there arent any good Matx motherboards out yet. Maybe once quadcore arrives we will see AMD and Intel a little more closely comparable. DVD Rebuilder is a very nice program, even for the money with all the options added its very worth it. For someone with very little time to backup, let alone watch movies, you really do need a strong system. Thanks again for the logs. Take care.

Good and all that rebuilder is I would not choose a system build based on the speed of rebuilder. I'm sure the system you built would be v.good for watching DVD's on the PC or gaming. Also when comparing you would need to take into consideration the type and amount of memory each person has and maybe the HD drive type and size and if any other processes were active at the time. IMO 78mins is a very respectable time for processing Scarface Platinum.

If these speeds continue to increase by the same margin with the quad core, there will be little need for me to use Recode2 or CloneDVD2 anymore!!!
If I had only done 2 passes, I think it would have encoded in the 45 minute range... That's equivalent to the times I was getting with Recode2 (advanced analysis and slow recoding) on my laptop!!! I went with 3 passes because this was a 2 1/2 hour movie, PLUS I did "Full disc." Most projects will only require 2 passes, but I wanted to see what I could throw at this rig. Next up is a batch project of a 3 to 4 disc series of episodes...
EDIT: grammar!!!
