I feel REALLY bad about doing this. I wanted to search for the answers in the forums on my own and not bother anyone with a question that I KNOW had to have been asked before, but every time I tried I came up with more than 200 pages of topics to pour through. So in the end, all I can do is apologize in advance for asking the already asked question. I'm sorry...

Now for the question. I have a SATA drive and an IDE drive on the same machine. Windows is installed on the IDE. I installed the SATA about a week ago, and I had Windows format the SATA for me. Once that was done I went ahead and moved some movies and such from the one to the other. When I rebooted later, the computer kept trying to boot from the SATA. I went into the bios and changed some settings so that it skips the SATA and tries to boot from the IDE. The problem is, as long as the SATA is connected, the IDE gets stuck on the Windows XP screen. I can't get passed that at all. I decided to format both drives and reinstall Windows on the SATA, using the IDE as storage space only. The problem I am having is, if I can't access the SATA drive at all, how can I copy the data (about 60 gigs worth) to DVD so I don't lose it all? I was thinking that I could partition the SATA and install Windows on the part that doesn't have the info and thereby keep it safe and take care of that data when I am done, but I am not even sure that is possible, and if so, how to do it.

Any info or instruction would be greatly appreciated, and the sooner the better as I am planning to reinstall tomorrow (and I live in the Czech Republic so I am between 6 and 10 hours ahead of the continental US)

Thanks for the assist...

u can get knoppix its a live boot CD and it'll allow u to mount the SATA and the IDE, then u should be able to copy the files u need to ur IDE drive.
also i would def use the SATA as ur master it'll increase the preformance of ur pc compared to the IDE.
