i recently ripped some dvd-5's in the uk using Nero recode and datawrite yellow dvd's for my father-in-law. they play fine on the pc and on my 2 players in the uk but they don't play on his player back in the states. apart from the region restriction (which i ripped out) i thought they would be fine on his player. does anyone know if this is a problem with his player over there or perhaps the disks or something to do with the ripping?

Your problem is likely due to frame rate differences between UK and US. UK use PAL, while the US is NTSF...you can convert from one to the other or vice versa so you will need to make two backups. One as PAL and one as NTSF.

i thought about that and i can see your point but Nero recode doesn't offer the option to change the frame rate and i'm not using an 'european' version of the software. also when i convert a DivX to a DVD and use either the PAL or NTSF standard they both play in my player but that could be the player. I guess i'll do some experimenting.

Nero vision will convert your files to either format after using Recode.
