The Valueline Ty media is a mixed bag. I believe when Ty does a Quality check on a run of discs and they are not 100 percent then Ty will move those discs down a notch to the Valueline. They say they are 4x but are current production 16x or 8x discs. But they will burn at 4x . You will see Ty 02 and 03, 8x and 16x discs, one or the other in those spindles. So a spindle of 100 Valueline disc could have 1 or 2 or 5 or ???? discs that did not meet TYs strict manufacturing process. Are these discs bad? Not really. They just did not get 100 percent score from quality control. But remember this batch of discs may be 10,000 pieces and only 10 out of the batch could show a defect, so they Valueline the whole batch. You could buy 3 100 spindles of Valueline at the the same time or different times and all may be perfect or maybe 1 spindle could have a lower quality disc or 2 in it. I have bought and used these in both the 02 and lately the 03 designations over the last 14 months and never had any problems with a bad disc. I would recommend them to any one. If you have a doubt about them buy a 50 pack of the TY 8x or 16x and some valueline, and burn the same on each of the discs and then compare them . I did and saw no difference. So to answer your question the quality is Good. If you do a search you will find a couple threads on this subject from about 6 or 8 months ago. Lots of good info there.

cletus170- I have bought 600 of the 8X DVD-R Taiyo yuden valueline Disc at the begining of this year as a belated Xmas present from me to me ( I'm a Good Santa LOL!) and Though I've only used about 50 or so of them so far I have no major complaints so far ! The Quality is there and so far all of mine have been 8x speed disc ! The only quibbles if any about these disc are they are the Silver shiny label surface ones ( For Thermal Printing ) and the label side will attract/show fingerprints big time! Also theese disc generally come (Tape Wrapped /shrink wrapped ?) instead of in a Cakebox /tub spindle container - This is not something Taiyo Yuden only does I believe Ritek does it on some of their disc as well ,but Once you unwrap the disc you really should have some place to store them - Tip #1 Save your old Cakeboxes ( The plastic tubs your other disc came in) Also be careful opening /unwrapping them as not to have them spill all over .Make sure also to see that your disc are'nt clinging together from the tape residue/static cling ? I accidently put in 2disc at once in one of my burners because of this and lord did it make an hellacious noise !!! BIG DUMMY I KNOw !!! lucliky no drives were hurt during the filming of that scene ! and neither disc appeared damaged that I could see either! Like I said minor quibbles if you could call them that ? THey do take labeling pretty good from a Sharpie pen - The quality depending on your penmanship & artistic ability . IF you want more proffesional/commercial looking results for your labels you can buy Thermal Printers made for theese type disc from $ 70.00 or so on up altough most print only 1 color at a time ! I sharpie mine ( I'm Cheap okay !?) but everyone has different needs ,wants , or taste so there are your options ! cletus170 as The other members said I don't think you can go wrong with theese disc as long as the price is right ! I buy most of my media Locally ( When on sale ) Verbatims & Sony/Taiyo Yudens mostly ! But will buy online if the deal is good & free or low cost on shipping ! If you gotta pay for shipping the cost difference between online sales and BestBuy or whoever usually either disappears or ends up favoring the local store ! you have to weigh your choices cletus170 no pun intended ! I hope this post was helpful even if only to a limited extent ? Good luck cletus170 & happy Burning !

They should be pretty good. Even though the have the premiums costing more-because you get a FREE CAKEBOX-those value tys are not too shabby.

I've seen other stores listing the TY premiums for a buck higher than the value discs. Another marketing scam?

You got plenty of room for sharpie labeling on the silver thermal tys.
