i just realized that in my pack of blank maxell dvd+R's there is a warning that states use of this disk with some 2.4-4x write speed DVD+R drives and/or recorders may result in writing errors, failures in retrieval of the data or damage to the data on the disk.

WHY? also i was woundering if i shouldnt burn in 2.4-4x should i do 1x? i hear that is as bad as burning too fast. Any and all help appretiated.

Writing too slow is actually worse than too fast. Most drive manufacturer's, from what I've read so far, recommend you write at their faster speeds for better results and at the highest speed that doesn't produce errors. Todays drives perform better at the higher speeds unlike older optical drives.

If this has proven to be incorrect I'm sure one of the others here will post with their experiences here, but during some of my research lately, that's what I've read about write speeds.

@DVDRyaN........ what you read about your Maxell disks is the fact that your DVD+Rs are 8x or 16x and it's a warning telling you that your drive should be able to write to these disks..... if it's an older drive that only writes at 2.4-4x then it would need a firmware update to enable the writing ... if available to fix this problem by the burner's manufacturer through firmware updates! It's a protective warning to be aware of the disks' speed and your writers capability to write to that disk! Use the appropriate DVD+R disk, whether it's 4x,8x,16x! I doubt if you can find 2x media anymore. And the only 2.4x is a DVD+RW disk.... which most of them are now 4x and 8x! At least that's what I think the warning with your Maxell disks mean!
