Ummm.. first off i need to know how to check my system information. And second, the steps i need to take to get my computer up to date. I would appreciate advice for buying the parts that will work as cheap as possible. eg ebay, comp swap meet etc.
i just want a fast working computer with amazing graphics, oh but don't we all =)

also if u can be bothered with me ;). i would like to know if building a gaming computer would be a good option. How do u build a comp? Is it hard to build a comp? Wat do you have to know? i dont know where to start my research. Could someone send my off in the right track. i mean you all learnt somewhere surely. =) thx guys

run cpu-z to find out cpu, ram and motherboard info. to find out what gfx card you have, go Start>Run and type "dxdiag" (no quotes) then click the display tab your graphics card model will be shown. From that you can tell if you comp is suitlabe to run the game (is it elder scrolls 4: oblivion by any chance?) Anyway, building a gaming computer is always a good option ;) Building a comp is honestly not that difficult if your careful, mostly it's just pluging stuff in here, slotting components in here etc. Tell us your budget (upgrade or new system) and someone'll recomend some parts.

you could also download belarc advisor. Building a pc? If it's your first time it can be intimidating. I've built competitive gaming rigs for friends for around $1000, but I already have the software. The rig I game on ran me around $1500 U.S.

Well finding out the gfx card was easy enough=) I have a NVIDIA geforce FX 5200

and my buget is around $1000 AUS so which ever way is cheap either building a new comp or upgrading this one.

download this it will tell you every thing about your system, mobo type, ram type, the lot, with that info we can advise you haw best to spend those ausie pounds(they have they queens head on them) :)
also the size and resolution of your screen.

well i dnt know how much 1000aus is in usd ure gonna need ram at least 1gb thats 100usd and a new agp card 7800gs some 220-290 usd

if you want a great PC for games and want one that will last you at least a few years, Id recomend you wait for vista to come out and buy one with a DX10 GPU and a core 2 duo and possibly quad processor. building will get you a better deal but if you dont really know too much about computers, id say you should just buy it

you can get any agp card and stick upto 3gb of ram in that board, now that would have oblivion running smoothly, but that would be about as much as you could do with this setup.
i dont think that many more agp cards will be released. now the thing with this is they know that many people have agp boards and can charge more for those cards. i just got a new mobo and a 7600gt pcie for the same price(in £) as an agp 7600gt and i would bet its the same in oz.
if you only play at 700by 1000 or 1000 by 1200 a 7600gt with 2gb ddr400 will give you playable framerates in oblivion, and all other games. but most if not all of that setup will need to be replaced (at sometime in the future)as your upgrade path is at its end.
you could look into getting a barebone system and an pcie graphics card and use some of your current parts and see how far your cash goes that way but i cant point you to any shops as i dont know of any in your part of the world

i havent heard about 700*1000 resolution but ok yeah thats true u could do some upgrades and buy agp card and more ram but in 6 months or so ure gonna need a new pc to "keep up"
