I see all this advice to downgraders to go down to 1.5, then get Devhook. Well first, it's mostly beginers asking for help. Devhook is a little confusing. 2.71-SEB" is not. 2.71 SEB" is plug and play. It's totally noob friendly. And very safe to install.

So I ask the old-skoolers, Why stay with 1.5? All the Dev hook mods work, and work faster in

I've read the 1.5 Vs. 2.71-SE threads.

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=34532

This one being the best

I just think telling a beginer to find devhook for 1.5 isn't the best advice. 2.71SE-B3 is the better chice for the new guys. Even when they discover the mods, they can still use them. And faster too cause the firmware is in flash0 and not the MS.

Just curious.....

Obviously because of.....O lets see EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO WITH 2.71 AND MORE.

You got:
Hombrew, Emulators, Roms, internet, Devhook, Isos, csos, TVU, sweet flash mod programs (ie: X-Flash, Pspersonalize,
Being able to change the: Fonts, Intro screen, sounds, coldboot sounds, dis-able programs on the psp, create your own sounds font.

SICK WIT IT

When the going gets tough....the quitters quit.

You confuse me. Are you 1.5 or 2.71SE?

Everything you mention can be done on 2.71-SEB3.

1.5 + devhook 2.71 emulation allows you to do ANYTHING. Look people were getting scared with the release of VCS, Ace Combat and a few other games that were "confirmed" to be only compatible with 2.8x. Egg on the face of the people that cried wolf. there is not a single game out there that does not work with 1.5 and devhook mod launcher, Soooo why upgrade at all? Old saying... dont fix something that isnt broken... and no I cant think of any improvements by upgrading or going to 2.71Se... maybe a few less clicks but whew who... cant run irshell.. that'd suck if you wanna do wifi filesharing... sure there's a few other obscure reasons of not upgrading. Does Lua work in anything but 1.5? curious...

EDIT: ive heard alot of raves about 2.71SE.. maybe if someone made an indepth FAQ and stickied it.. more of us might use it. Me im not taking a chance screwing up the wonderfulness I already have.

You fear change.

Emulating 2.71 is bulky and noticebly slower.

Put your files in flash0 instead of the MS. Totally safe.
Downgrade back to 1.5 if you don't like it. Makes using multipul memsticks a breeze. Your XMB settings are saved to MS when emulating 2.71. Pain in the ass when you change memsticks.

Do you use any of the 2% of homebrew 2.71SE won't run?

All the DevHook mods work. Dax support. Flash mods work.

The compatibility of ISO's that work in no-umd mode is f'n huge.
Any ISO that don't work can be devhooked with out the firmware on the stick.

wow there wumpa.. I said make a faq... not preach to me. Present that material in um preferably less aggressive way so I dont feel like im being attacked and I or whoever that feels like me might buy into it. Maybe you can make a guide, just dont be so effing hostile sounding... "you dont like change"... wow we're talking about a PSP not gay marraige er something LOL

EDIT: does irshell 2.2 work with 2.71Se? You never answered that. VCS and the latest games? I see no threads on it working with SEb3 ALL I see is devhook. And devhook slower? what are you talking about? works perfectly fine for me. Like I said.. if you wanna post THAT in a thread than you need to back it up and prove that it is better... if you cant or dont wanna do that you shoulda never posted it in the first place.

I backed it up by saying read the maxconsole psp stickys. If I did an FAQ it would just be copying what's already there.

I don't mean to sound agressive. I just type in point form, because people are smart and I don't need to spell out every thought.

Why reboot an emulated XMB when you can have the XMB running right from flash. Your emulated XMB settings are on the stick, so if you change sticks the XMB settings don't carry over.

I like to turn on my PSP and just run things. Starting an emulated firmware after you boot is redundent.

If you have a must play ISO, you can run it the old fashioned way. So SE will run all ISO's 1.5 can run.

It's safe, and you can try before you buy.

Firmware 1.5

+All 1.x Homebrew runs with no compatibility issues
+All 2.x Homebrew runs with no compatibility issues (via DevHook)
+More support for customization tools
+Almost all ISOs run (via DevHook)
+Customize emulated 2.71 emulated firmware without the risk of bricking your PSP
+Directly Boot any homebrew
+Recovery Menu to prevent Soft-Bricks (Custom Firmware)
+Skip autoboot UMD (Custom Firmware)(Also skips boot splash screen)
+Hide Corrupt Icons (Custom Firmware)
+Run non-kxploited Homebrew (Custom Firmware)
+Load PRXs from the Memory Stick at boot (Custom Firmware)
+Doesn't VOID your Sony warranty if you DO NOT install the Custom Firmware (Unless they can PROVE your ran homebrew, then they would void your warranty)
-Does VOID your Sony warrantly (only applys to current psp systems since they will know its firmware version by the serial number, not to US/JPN Launch systems)
-Memory Stick Corruption issues with emulated firmwares
-Speed decrease by emulating firmware from memory stick
-Requires UMD for emulation (via DevHook)
-Must browse ISOs with shortcut keys one at a time via emulated XMB
-Must restart DevHook to run a UMD via DevHook 2.71 Emulation

Firmware 2.71 SE-B'' (B3)

+Runs almost all 1.x Hombrew (does not need to be kxploited to run)
+Runs all 2.x (PRX) Homebrew
+Run UMD or ISO without having to restart
+Runs newer UMD games directly (SE'' if it does not require 2.8x kernal features)
+Run games with plainprx files (SE'' this is working correctly)
+All Games load in Devhook when using 271F if systemctrl_dh4se.prx is not loaded (not sure with the SE'' version if it has fixed these issues)
+Runs almost all ISOs (DevHook via MemStick emulation has better compatibility)
+Some ISOs that do not work in DevHook properly now work (Ex. bost-a-move)
+Runs a large number of ISOs with no UMD
+Skip autoboot UMD (Also skips boot splash screen)
+Hide Corrupt Icons
+Run non-kxploited Homebrew
+Firmware performs faster (Browser, RSS, Games)(Because it's stored on FLASH0)
+No known memory stick corruption issues
+Browse ISOs via the Game Menu in the XMB
+Recovery Menu to avoid Soft-Bricks
-Compatibility Issues with SOME 1.5 Homebrew
-Not all ISOs work with built in Emulation
-Not all ISOs work with DevHook if DevHook is using FLASH0 for emulation of 2.71
-Some have issues with it not functioning properly (CAN be fixed by flashing a working 2.71 FLASH1 used with DevHook previously)
-Uses up more space on FLASH0 (Altho this should not be an issue, as it is not full)
-If you change your boot screen then run an update it MAY Soft-Brick your PSP (this is because of the limited room in FLASH0)
-Must flash FLASH0 to customize, not as many tools to support this
-VOIDs your Sony warranty if it bricks

You are just think about the PRESENT, focus on the FUTURE.

No firmware is better or worse in my opinion, because neither one is perfect.

I gotta admit that 2.71-SE has a little disadvantage that it will always have; because it is just temporary, once an emulated 2.8x comes out you are going to be have to be switching firmwares again just like when on a 1.5, unless Dark Alex comes out with a 2.8x SE Custom firmware which i doubt will happen soon.

Are you calling 1.5+Devhook permanent? Sure sounds like it. larf.

Nobody will fix, or emulate 2.8x. They will work on 3.0. More like Booster and D_A will come up with something.

But um yea, so far not one technical reason to stay with 1.5 in this thread. It's all about taste. And I think 2.71 in flash tastes way better.

Have you tried POP Revelations in 1.5 DH? It lags no matter what the CPU is set at, or if it's compressed or not. No Lag in SE. Want to get rid of lag in compressed games? Use DAX. 2.71SE supports it.

Yes it runs LUA, Yes it runs ir shell, and 99% of everything else 1.5 can do. Does the 1% effect you?

I'm not hostile so don't read that here. I am genuinly looking for a technical reason to stay with 1.5. Inquiring minds want to know.

I see no reason to stay with 1.50 everything is much faster with SE-B3.
As X-Flash now works with SE-B3 (limited, but not for long).
Fair enough some folk like DevHook and 1.50 (myself included) but when you have no need to be emulating firmwares...why do it?
With overclocking now installable SE-B3 (thanks to coldbird) whats the point of staying with 1.50....

what does SEB3 do that SEB doesn? and aslo im also VERY tempted to switch to 2.71SE beacuse it saves loads of spcae (20mb). also if i wann aplay via usb how can i? do i have to use the one provided in the ultimate insatller? and if so i dont have to go to 1.5 each time right? just load the app play games and then when i want to navigate to game menue and play the games on MS? if i can do this then im going to 2.71SE

Playing via USB isnt supported yet in SE-B3, but it is being implemented, weather its going to be in the next release i dont know.
They only way to play via USB with SE-B3 is with DevHook, which is all DevHook is needed for in SE-B3.
The rest as was said, you can play your ISO,s straight from the GAME menu.
