Yesterday I installed new SerialATA plextor PX-755SA to replace older SATA PX-716SA burner. OS and Nero call it a PX-755A but PlexTools identifies it as correctly as SA.
Problem is that I've been unable to make a burn with this drive yet.
First I had a "Invalid block address" error, so I reinstalled, flashed to latest firmware, removed a Roxio driver (not sure how it got there in the first place), and explored the DMA issue I read about on this forum. As far as I can tell, the DMA does not apply to this system as it runs SATA2/3GB exclusively for a HDD RAID array and SATA/1.5GB for the optical drive(s). After all this, I tried again. Although still unsucessful, this time I got "Invalid field in command" error.
I've tried both burns and simulations, and receive the errors for both. DVDDecryptor couldn't burn either. Any Help/Feedback would be appreciated.

Hi typhoonrs
Biggest problem may be the discs you are using - Disc Manufacturer: PRINCO
Think these are even worse than CMC ;). So switch the media to some better stuff like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

For the DMA - Nero doesn't report it correctly using your config. You should be able to check under your sata/raid controller in device manager.

Physical memory : 2047MB
Free physical memory: 2047MB
Memory in use : 20 %

Kinda odd here - free & physical are the same (?) probably not even an issue.

Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2291168 (509:08.68, 4474MB)

For these discs lower the target size to 4360 or even 4300. You burn looks like it is failing at the end which is another sign of poor quality media.
For these dvd files already on your hard drive - you can use Recode to reduce the target size and burn.

Simulation failed at 2x
A little too slow here - these discs try 4x. Better media try 8x.

Nero Version: 7.0.0.0
Nero can use an update too - the latest is 7.5.7.0.

Give those a go and let us know.

I ran out of Verbatim w/ Azo Dye DVD-Rs earlier last week. I do have one DVD-R DL left that I'll try once I can at least burn a DVD-5. I know the PRINCOs can (ha! I mean do) have problems, especially burning an image this large, but at least they'll burn on the PX-716SA. On the PX755SA, I can't even get past the lead-in... even during simulation. During an actual burn, nothing happens, and the media is still recognized as blank when reloaded.

For the DMA - Nero doesn't report it correctly using your config. You should be able to check under your sata/raid controller in device manager.

The Device Mangler confirms SATA Transfer instead of PIO

The system haas 4GB of RAM but even with the Physical Address Extension switch in WinXP, most applications can't see past the 2GB Limit. Occasionally I'll setup a 1GB RAM disk for swap files. But I have all that disabled now for troubleshooting.

Simulation failed at 2x
A little too slow here - these discs try 4x. Better media try 8x.

Again the subpar media limits burning to 2x in any of the drives I've tried. And I do routinely use Recode or DVDShrink in a pinch. I've used it on 2 of my test images so far to get it to the 4474 mark (or less- 3.9GB on one of them) and they've both burned without any issues on the other Plextor PX-716SA, and on other network PCs.

Nero Version: 7.0.0.0
Nero can use an update too - the latest is 7.5.7.0.

I did just update to v7.5.7.0, but I'm still recieving the same error, and not making it past the Lead-in. I've tried swapping SATA calbes and testing the power. I'm wondering if this perticular drive may be defective.

Ah the memory thing - well that explains why it looks odd in Nero!

As you can see Nero doesn't report the correct transfer mode. So you're fine there.

I won't try the last dual layer disc either like you said. But I would try another brand like Verb 1st to see if this drive is defective. If it can't burn those than after everything you've checked - defective drive may just be it.
Give that a shot and keep us posted.

I also have a Plextor 755SA dvdrw, and am completely stumped by my problem. It reads cds and dvds just fine, but will not burn any media. In fact, whenever I insert a blank media disc into the drive, the specification for the drive changes from DVD-RW Drive (D:) to CD Drive (D:). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, updated the firmware, and tried several different forms of blank media from reputable companies, all to no avail. If there is anyone who has some sage advice on fixing this problem, you will have my undying gratitude and thanks!

Hi Rheingold
Can you post a failed Nero log? We can take a peek.

Just need the last one. Be sure to edit out the serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

You can find them here:
Nero 6
program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
Nero 7
program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.

I put this in another post. I had similar problem. Talked to Plextor tech support. I did a blink test for them per the manual only to find out my recorder is bad at the end of the warranty. They have no repair reapir service and told be it would be cheaper to buy a new DVD recorder. It won't be a Plextor for sure.
