I have a 27" HDTV. I kind of live out in the woods sort of away from any cities. I am curious if I could buy an HDTV antenna and recieve an hd signal for the non cable channels.. ie fox, nbc, whatever those are.. and which antenna would be the best to have? Thanks

It depends on where you live, many areas have broadcast HD programming and I might add the both the pic and the sound is awesome...if fact, the sound beats the hell out of cable. So too, more and more HD is being broadcast. Why don't you tell us where you live...NOT your address, naturally, but but just the state and town or state and county.

Just to mention it, you're screwed with broadcast TV in big cities too. I live in downtown Philly and I don't know if its all the skyscrapers or whatever, but I don't get a single broadcast station. I'm screwed into paying for cable. When I lived just outside the city, I got all the stations.

Anyway, tell us the state and county or town. I know there are web sites that will tell you what HD is broadcast in your area. I'll post it when I find it.

Simply go to AntennaWeb.org and it will show you whats available in your area and your chances of getting them. The best solution is always an outdoor antenna.

The antenna website...

thanks guys! I actuall live in a little town called Whiting, NJ. The area code is 08759.. I am in the woods.. but I am just hoping I can get a signal. I have cable, just not HD cable. I guess you have to have digital cable to get HD channels. I am just trying to get the basic channels in HD.. anyway.. thanks and I will check out the site as well. Thanks

Lord, I would kill to forego this damned $100 a month cable bill. I recently moved to a building which is in a rather open area. I have an amplified "Terk" antenna somewhere. I think I'll give it a try.

motomods , even with digital cable you still don't get your local channels in HD . digital cable has an HD package thats about 6 channels or so but NO locals so as Ced said a rooftop antenna is the way to go . antennas are antennas theres no special antenna for HD , your local radio shack would have them. thats where i got mine. i can watch all the football games/auto racing on sunday in HD with my rooftop antenna for free and the picture quality is amazimg. BTW i get over 20 digital channels for free.

how far from the city do you live that the local broadcast stations are broadcasting from?

motomods,
Just a side note, do you have an HD digital tuner in the TV or a set top box?

Without a digital tuner you won't get HD TV.
