I've been thinking about getting a PSP & had this really wild idea about PS3. Okay, we know that $ony will release new games & constantly updates the firmware so the game will only run on that firmware. If you don't have that, you have to update yours so the game will play. No update, no game. That's why there's DEVhook & downgrading.
Speculation is that $ony will have a similar scheme with their new system; games will be burned with something on the boot area (the encryption of Blu-ray) & it will require your PS3 to have the latest firmware. If you don't update your firmware, you won't be able to play the game.
Like with Devhook, do you think there's a way to fool the PS3 hardware into thinking it's been updated? So when a new game requires a download of the firmware it *thinks it's been updated & plays? There are all kinds of rumors in the modding scene that the encryption won't be on the first few months of games; until $ony gets their PSN online service going, there won't be any firmware updates.
Can someone with knowledge of the Blu-ray format & PSP give their thoughts on this? Just some ideas to throw out, less than 7 days until it comes out in the States.
