I was in Office Max yesterday and noticed a sale on Verbatim 50-Pack 16x DVD+R/-R -$12.99. I know alot of people like the verbatims. I noticed all were made in Tawain. Are these any good? From what Ive read only "made in Japan" discs are good. Does verbatim have any made in Japan discs? I guess what Im asking is what do I need to look for to be able to purchase good quality verbatim discs you all rave about?

- Made-In-Taiwan (MIT) Verb. DVD is a lot better than others that also MIT ... Make sure they are identified as MCC.

Verbatim DVD Media is about the ONLY DVD Media made in Taiwan that is good. In Fact: Excellent! 2nd only to Taiyo Yuden Made in Japan media. To answer your question about Verbatim Made in Japan. Yes, but you can only find those in the U.K.
Lucky Creaky!
My Strong Advice: Go Get you some at that $12.99 price! That's 27 cents per disc including the tax at 5%. Hard to find decent CD-R media for that low price!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Picked up 2 spindles today, code out as MCC, had to ask the stock clerk 'cuz they were stripped bare out front. One poor guy was going to accept a spindle of Memosux for the same price, told him to hold off while we wrangled some from the back. Should have a new member signing up in AD today.

I took yall's advice and picked some up. Ive got to say not to shabby. I did a quick burn of a dvd at 8x and then got a quality scan of 95 with Nero. Not too shabby indeed.
thx again.

Of course now that more people want to buy Verb's. it'll mean that there are less available for us...(Hmmm)
[rethink strategy]
Cd Freaks recommends CMC-Mags

Is it ok to burn to these discs at 4x. I burn all of my movies at this speed is it better to burn at 4x or 8x. Has anyone done a quality scan to check and compare these discs burned at these two speeds? If you could please that would be great I just wanna see if there is a quality difference. Thanks.

They will burn fine at either 8X or 12X,
You will get a quality score in the mid90's to 98 with these disks provided you have defragged your hard drive recently, are not multitasking, and are not attempting to burn too many chick flicks at the same time. But seriously, the faster media does not like to be burned too slowly, I've never gone below 8X, but some members report poorer quality when trying to burn at 4X. I've burned a few at 16X and they score low 90's so, you should be fine at 8X.
I hope that this helps.

Can anyone else confirm that burning at 4x instead of 8x results in poorer quality scans? thanks

i always used to do 4x on my 8x discs, but now do ALL my burning (on 8x and 16x discs) at 8x. it's apparently not recommended to burn too slowly on 16x media, i've read that in loads of places

@jlg895,
What type of burner do you have, and which firmware version are you running on it? Sounds like your drive doesn't know about the newer media.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
You'll find the latest firmware version for your drive here.
Hope this helps.
If you are running Nero, please post your Nero log in a seperate thread, in the Nero forum, and title it to the effect "Why can't I burn faster than 1.2?"
But please edit out your serial number before posting, don't make it any easier for pirates to rip off your number.

i have a sony dvd burner DRU-710. this is the firmware i am using: BYX5. That is the latest firmware release. Ive never really understood why it is so slow just finally came to terms with it. although an hr to record 2.5 gigs of something is a little tiresome.
