wondering if the ND-6100A -will work with My Compaq laptop ? Nec says depends on the notebook ? & contact HP ! Help anyone ? thanks

I kinda hate to answer this because notebooks are so different from desktops in what you can change in and out of them. And unfortunately the only information that I could find was from an ebay seller.

I have an HP laptop and it is rounded on the edges, this drive looks square so I don't thing it would look right sticking out of the side of my laptop. I know that HP makes a squared off laptop...just something to keep in mind.

LOCOENG- Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just call Hp/Compaq and ask them ? I already asked NEC and best answer was Depends on The Laptop so I suppose it's atleast 50/50 I have'nt opened the box yet even ! 1. Cause it's a Xmas/ and or birthday present & 2. Incase their is a better laptop deal on Black Friday I can always bring this one back & get the better one ! I suppose I could use my Old Nec -Nd-2500A that I made into an external drive (Usb) But would be kinda heavy to lug around given the laptop's portability ! Not a problem...so you haven't even opened the box and want to replace the drive? Does it have a burner in it now or you just want the quality of an NEC drive inside? My Walmart was advertising a Compaq notebook with burner, 512 ram and 80 gig HDD for $398 last week...I'm sure they will run that deal again before X-mas. Alot better than the $1200 I paid for mine.

LOCOENG- Has a Cd Burner /DVD reader - would like to put a DVD Burner in hence the Nec - Have two NEc's already Nec Nd-3500A & 2500A With the 2500A now being external ! I could use it with the laptop But kind of detracts from the whole portability thing !The Compaq From walmarts was the one I Bought ! Thanks again No rest for the wicked -Or those who work the Graveyard shift anyways ! Thanks & happy Burning ! The other Drives ( NEC & BENQ are In my desktop of course !)

Contacted Hp Support & The Compaq Presario V5305Wm Laptop is Upgradable to a DVD burner Atleast with their parts ! Will post the info after a little judicious editing ( The story will be true , Only the story will be changed to protect the Innocent LOL! )FYI ! later my friends !

bigtoxy69: this was their reply The ND-6100A is a standard slim drive designed to fit in a standard drive bay in a notebook. Some notebooks use a specialized drive to meld with the overall design of the notebook in which the ND-6100A will not work. You will need to contact HP support to see if the drive bay will accept standard slim drives.
