Hello, first off, I am a complete newbie. I know very little about computer terminology.
Anyway, I purchased a software program called Nero 7: Ultra Edition in order to transfer home movies to my computer. I've figured out how to trim them down into smaller clips. But my next goal was to upload them onto Youtube.
The clips are saved on my desktop as .NRG files. I tried to upload one to Youtube. And I had no problem with it. However, since that initial success, Youtube hasn't let me upload any additional clips. I can upload them. But I then get an error message that says something like "FILE NOT RECOGNIZED."
Youtube says that that it accepts files in the .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats. So how it accepted (and plays) my initial upload is a mystery to me.
At this point, I'm looking for a way to convert my .NRG files into either .AVI, MOV, or .MPG formats.
Can anyone explain how to do this? Do I need to purchase some additional software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Ok what you have is a Nero image file (.nrg). You don't want that for uploading to youtube.
What format were the files from your homevideo camera thing?

Thanks for responding. The video was taken from a homemade DVD I'd made. Is that what you mean?

Ok, thanks for the information. However, I have a question. The DVD is roughly an hour long. I need to make several separate clips from it - perhaps 40 or so. Then each individual clip will be uploaded to Youtube.
Nero was the software I was using to edit and isolate the clips. Is DvdShrink an editor also? Or will it just pull the entire one-hour and make it into one clip?
Thanks.

DVD Shrink will rip it into one folder with lots of smaller files in. It is adviseable you don't mess with those yourself, and let software do it for you.
Anyway, even if you have one big file, I though when you uploaded it, Youtube would split it into lots of 10 minute videos? Maybe not.
You can use Nero to edit them still, as long as the output files are .VOB

There's the key. Is it possible to save them (from Nero) as .vob files? Or will DvdShrink output them as .vob?
If I can edit them using Nero, after editing has been completed, I would then need to save the edited clip. And thus far, everytime I save it, it's saved as an .NRG file. Is it possible to save it as something else? Or is there a way to simply (or not so simply) convert it to something other than .NRG?
Thank you so much - again!

DVDshrink will output as VOBs.
Then you can convert this to AVI and split up that AVI file into smaller bits...
There are lots of tools out there to do it, but i haven't used any, so can't recommend one. Just google or search here for a good one.
