how can i convert avi or mpg files to dvdr i have the a104 writer i tryed ulead dvd and it took forever and i have a dvd with no sound the org file had sound
can i do this if so how
when i was burning to cdr nero coverted the files to vcd for me

Anyway, what you need to do, is to re-encode the files into MPEG-2 format using valid DVD resolution (720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL). For encoding, use tools like TMPGEnc. After this, you need to author a DVD using a DVD authoring tools like SpruceUp, MyDVD or Primo Prassi. After you've authored the DVD, you have either a DVD image or a ready DVD directory (depends on your authoring tool) which you can then burn to DVD-R using DVD burning app like Nero 5.5.
It depends on what format the original sound is in -- if it is as an MP3, it shouldn't be a problem, simply use the AVI's audio as an input for TMPGEnc. But if it's in AC3 format, you need to Demux the audio using GraphEdit or similiar (use our search to find messages how to do this) and keep that file as it is.
