I have had very good luck with sony -R in both 8x and 16x. quality on Nero check 93 or 95 usually. buy, in reading this forum, I decided to try Taiyo Yuden and thus ordered 50 from Rima.com. when I opened the package, I noticed it said "made in Taiwan" but thought nothing of it. After burning about half the lot, I am really disappointed and see nothing special at all about TYs. Then I happened to be ordering from Super Media store and it had a whole thing about fake TYs and how to spot them, etc. But, the kicker was that they are supposed to be made in Japan, which rang a bell!! Thus, I suspect I got a fake batch from Rima.com, even tho when I check the blanks out on Nero disk info, it shows TYG02---no manufacturer, tho. that says "unknown." Anyone got any ideas on this subject?
The above is taken from my buddy kivory666, the official Doc TY thread. All I gotta say is that genuine Taiyo Yuden is "Made In Japan" - so if yours "Made somewhere else", then it is likely FAKE.

Take a look at this page: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm if you scroll down to near the bottom you will see a list of fake DVDs and note that the media ID TYG02 is used on fake Taiyo Yuden discs. (although it is also one of the possible IDs used on genuine ones) My guess is you got some fakes.
