dvd player won't play ac3 i think?

I burned a video to a dvd in dvd format (with the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS etc..) and I went to play it on my dvd player but there was no sound. I think it's because the sound is in AC3 format, but I thought that was the original format for dvd video sound. So, I know the sound is on there, when I play it on my computer it works fine, since I have the AC3 filter installed. I just want to find a way to change the sound in the video to something my player supports. On the front of the player it says dolby and mp3. I thought dolby was the AC3, but maybe I'm misinformed. Anyways, does anyone have any ideas.
