I have this DVD, ripped into normal file data (video_ts folder) that I want to burn using Nero (7.0). The thing is that the DVD even contains some extras - files for PC-access only and these files are supposed to be put in the root of the DVD, outside video_ts/audio_ts folders.
What kind of compilation am I supposed to choose to burn this properly? Choosing it as 'DVD Video' and then putting the mentioned files in the root will cause me burn error, when it's time for my dvd-burner to start burning those files, and ruin my disc.
Is choosing DVD ISO compilation a good choice? Will this be playable in stand-alone players? Or maybe DVD UDF? Should I burn them in any of the mentioned ways, despite the warnings from Nero that "burning the video data disc way will cause in incompatible disc"? I don't want to waste my media (it's DVD-9 disc) experimenting so I'm asking you guys.
I'm pretty sure it's just a DVD UDF, if you have an RW you may try burning to that first, if not, then you could burn it to an ISO, and use a virtual drive to mount the image, or a program like vlc to "play" the iso.
Not to be rude, but I did read AND answer your question "What kind of compilation am I supposed to choose to burn this properly?" Testing the results with VLC would actually tell you whether or not it would play in a standalone dvd player.

I might have sounded rude myself in my previous post. Sorry 'bout that.
Now I see your point, but first things first...
How I solved the problem - Well, I decided to ditch Nero for this purpose entirely and stick to something more simple and effective. I chose ImgBurn as my burning tool. I didn't need to adjust anything myself, just kept it to default settings. What I did was simply drawing my video_ts to ImgBurn's file-window and so I did the same with the extras-files. I press 'burn' and the program did the rest.
As for VLC, I don't agree that it (and any other software based DVD-player) is a good way to see "what's playable on a stationary player". It's simply not the same thing and I stopped doing this after few bad experiences. Computer is simply more tollerant on most of the things. I previously used a bad AC3-encoder when I authoring a DVD and DVD was normally playable on my PC, on any software-based player but I couldn't get the sound-playback on my stationary dvd-player. I discovered this error several months after finishing the project.
However, there is ONE program that acts more/less like a true dvd-player, it's PowerDVD. For instance, just like most of better stationary DVD-players, this program is able to play unfinalized VR-discs, despite the fact that the disc won't be recognised by any other program on your PC, not even Windows explorer.
But still, I tend to use a -+RW disc and check the things out on my stationary player. This was, however, not an option with my latest issue that I was asking for help here, since I was using DL media.
