Ok, so I've had Action Replay Max for the PS2 for several months. Every so often, usually when I buy a new game, I update my codelist using a pendrive. I've always been able to update the codelist without any issues until now. The last few updated codelists that I've downloaded seem to have a problem with them. When I try to go to expert mode to view the codes, the codelist starts to load, but then the Action Replay software freezes, requiring a restart of the PS2. Please anybody, I really need help since I did not save any old codelists and now I can't use ARMax.

I have exactly the same problem... it doesn't happen if you remove your mem. card, but of course then you lose all that you downloaded. I emailed Datel and am still waiting for a response.
Is yours the one with the hardware, of did you just get CDs?

I got the one that just came with CDs. It worked fine for months, even after numerous codelist updates. Then, one day I updated it and bam, it freezes every time it tries to load the codelist. I've updated it several times since with the same problem. I really think I should have went with a different cheat device.

I have the same prob and I found a temporary fix:
You need to use the max memory program and format a spare memory card. Next restart the disc by pressing R1+R2+select+start. When the program restarts download the updates. After thats done you should be able to enter expert mode.
This works for me at least. If anyone has a better solution please let us know.

I'll give this a try when I get home from work. Nordberg, may I ask what method you use to update the codelist? I am stuck using dialup internet, therefor, I have to download the update to my computer and transfer it to my memory card. I don't have a pen drive so I use my PSP to transfer the updates via the USB port.

hey i've just joint this forum now cos u guys seem to have brobs and i no a better solution than to delete or format ur drive.
1.download this usefull software called "Max Codelist manager"
2.use it and select the games u need and transfer the cide list to the pendrive or max drive, this will make the code list smaller.
now make sure that u have no code list on ur memory card.
plug in the max drive and start action replay without transfering the code to ur memory card.click on the icon that lets u 2 the codes and games.now u should only see the codes that u wanted and this way u dont have to mess up ur memory card and ur saving space.
here is the url to download the sofware.
http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=getit&lid=83
if u have more Question mail at TT3000@hotmail.co.uk
im glad to help out a fello gamer.

Hi all,
I finally got through to Datel US (they make AR). When I explained the problem, they said that the programmers were currently investigating some issues with the updates, so I'm guessing a month or so. At least it's not a problem with the disc.
If anyone gets it working, please post.
Thanx

I used the method described by TT3000 and it worked great. I would like to mention that if you download the program that he refers to, you will need Microsoft's .NET framework for it to install. It's a great program though because you can create a custom codelist which only contains the codes that you want. So, this means less space used on your memory card and also quicker loading times. I want to thank all that have responded to this thread for your time and consideration. Hope TT's post helps others here that are having the same problem.

I have Max Codelist Manager, but when I told it to download updates, I didn't find any of the new games that I got when I downloaded updates from the PS2
I'm not going to use this method because I don't have the pendrive, so I'd have to burn a CD, which is much hassle. I'll wait until Datel fixes the direct-download issue.

the reason why you dont have any of the new games is because the "work around" has erased them and your using the files directly on the ARMAX itself. NO thanks i'll wait for them to fix the update, i can go without cheating for a while.

Alright,
So i got action replay version 3.32 and a slimline (SCPH-75003) ps2.
Now i have lost my ps2 memory card and i have heard that i could update my codelist using a cd-r.
I followed the instructuions on the codejunkies website, i made the cd image, burneed it with Nero and then i did the rest.
Now when max media player loads up, i swap it with the cd-r with the codelist updater on it, and nothing happens. The codelist updater program is supposed to rum but all there is, is a black screen.
Anyone else with the same proble who can help???

I tried this with the CD-R and had exactly the same problem... and the screen isn't black, it's just very faded. I did it the way they said to, but it still didn't work.
Neither the direct connection nor the CD-R have worke the way they should. They don't work at all. Does anyone have a quick fix (I don't have a pendrive)?
Thanks

I hate Datel for their no-answer-support theory. You ask a question and they e-mail you with the same answer to look in the faq at datel's www.codejunkies.com. I did and the answer is no where to be found. Then I call and ask a real human my question, oh but guess what they tell me to look at the faq even though I said it wasn't in there.
I like ARMax. I use it for Memory Card backup using the pendrive, for cheating, and I even find the DVD Region X to be useful. But if I can't get support when I want it then I think I'll move on. Gameshark sucks so I wouldn't use that. It causes too many laser errors. And it's "First day code guarantee" is a bunch of bull. I got it about a year after San Andreas came out but they still didn't have the codes for it. It had copyrights up to year 2005 which is clearly after San An came out.
Anyway, sorry for my babbling but my 2 cents had to be heard. And Happy holidays to everyone

I have a question about the USB drives being used. I have an action replay max, but its about 2 or 3 years old. it came with the dongle (memory card), but no USB drive. i have usb thumb drives that ive tried, but when i try to access the memory manager, it doesnt show any of them as being connected. one is a 256 MB and one is 128 MB. both work fine on my computer, but arent recognized by memory manager. i know for a fact that they do work on my ps2 because another cheat disc (different brand) that a friend used recognized both usb drives fine. is my version of MAX so outdated that it wouldnt recognize usb drives, or should i try something else?

Action Replay MAX cannot work with 3rd party drives. You need to use the Action Replay pendrive, whichy you can get by purchasing Action Replay MAX Evo edition.
Good luck

well, thats what i figured. my replay max freezes up about every other time it tries to load the code list anyhow, so i doubt i will continue to use it. datel never responds to my emails about my problems. they must think that by ignoring me ill just go out and purchase their latest product. WRONG!
i have already purchased one of their competitor's discs, called CodeBreaker. it works with ANY usb thumb drive and allows downloading of single game codes and game saves, and copies them to an actual ps2 memory card, eliminating the need for a special "dongle". it works flawlessly, and they provide free code updates. i highly recommend this over the buggy action replay for anyone interested!
