I'm not sure, but I remember reading in one of the nintendo magazines that nintendo won't be focusing on cutting edge graphics like the 360 and ps3. They said that they are going for control.

Does this mean that graphics will be the same as the GCN? I'm not saying the graphics suck for the GCN but I do know that they are not much compared to the playstation and Xbox.

You guys think nintendo should sacrifice graphics for control?
I think control is more important, but graphics should be upped as well.

Wii is significantley less powerful than PS3 and 360 so graphics most likely will not improve as much as in the other consoles. oh, and GCN was more powerful than PS2 just so you know

hmmm, darn it o well, i think the wii will revolutionize new gaming. Think graphics will be better than the GCN? As long as that is true then that would be cool.

the graphics should be better than gamecube's as it is more powerful than game cube (though not by nearly as much as I hoped)

i would have to agree take a look at the gamcube the game cube scored with games like resident evil where the new version of resident evil 1 - 4 have excellent graphics the ps2 wouldn't be able to handle these graphics and im not looking for a graphics power house this time because why do i need graphics power when i got great playability and awesome design instead of a overpriced paper weight that weighs almost 60 pounds because of a hard drive and bluray and all of this other garbage

im looking foward to the wii think about using the wii remote to controll current gamecube titles how many time do you want to just take a motion controller and use it in zelda to hack and slash people to death and even better

nintendo has graphics power and why you ask simple nintendo goes with a ati chipset where the ps3 went with nvidia which has major lag and other issues

i think in the end alll though the nintendo wii will start off with some interresting low end graphics i think the next gen titles like mario and there new durt track racer and even the new metroid prime will make people pee there pants i have done beta testing for both nintendos wii and for sonys ps3 and the ps3 was still running its games off of xbox 360 development kits because they had not a single console running yet

worse are fcc can still shut down sells of ps3 because sony is still waiting for fcc clearence to sell there console while nintendo had it from the beginning its not who you know but what you know and nintendo has it hands down

I don't think they need to improve the controls more... about graphic improvement, they could add an expansion pack like n64 did, and think of Wii as a DS, they focus on gameplay, you think wario ware needs better graphics?

Please please please please PLEASEx508,431,563³ do NOT let Nintendo do another expansion pack!!! PLEASE!~

The expansion pack was one of the ultimate causes of death for n64 gaming. Developers were torn between the need to make two different versions, depending on whether you had it or not. Because of it, some developers wasted considerable time tryin to make games utilize both methods, instead of spending time tuning gameplay, or optimizing and finding better rendering methods for the hardware.

Ultimately, when games started supporting it, the difference between with and without was very clear. Once games started supporting it, you could tell that by HAVING it, games looked the same as before. If you didn't have it, the new games looked even WORSE than they previously had. What a great device they had cooked up!

I'm all for Nintendo, I think they make great consoles; but historically speaking, add-ons have never been a good sign for consoles. Sega-CD was another prime example. It really offered a lot, in game video support, much larger capacity; but ultimately the divide in user purchase kept it from getting major support from game companies.

I'd prefer Nintendo to keep it to the regular system that they start with.

you know graphics i think will improve a bit, but i got to say that nintendo is the most innovative gaming company yet.

Think of the DS and now the Wii! They are taking in a whole new level of gaming, its about the experience not the graphics. Sure, graphics can be good but if the game is crap, well... all you got is pretty pictures.

Wii is the best out there, one more week guys!

I think the Wii will have some really impressive gameplay, I won't say it's the best just yet; but if it follows the DS accordingly in it's market; it will be.

I have high hopes, and I am eager to see a wonderful success.

Id have to agree with handson. developers will not make a game that is not playable with the retail version of a console, with the exception of games that use special peripherals such as dance games (though you could still play those with buttons). I just hope the early wii games dont turn out like some of the early DS games. some of the developers would try to integrate the game into the controls, rather than the controls into the game, causing it to be as shallow as you could get.

I think the trick is to really REALLY make sure you read up well on Wii games before you buy; at least for the first year.

With the DS, I had a bad first year, and traded it in promptly, because of poor replay value titles. Later I re-purchased one and found a LOT of good titles.

With the Wii, it's probably a good idea to really investigate titles more so than with more 'traditional' systems. The reason is because, as stated above, there are a lot of developers who create gimmicky garbage with new peripherals like this. After about the first year, this almost completely stopped, and the real flow of good titles was set.

That's not to say that the Wii will necessarily suffer this same first year, because many developers quickly realized that gimmicky doesn't sell; good gameplay does. So, perhaps they've learned their lesson, but I would still at least a few really cheesy/bad releases on the platform. One safe bet is to go with as much 1st party stuff as possible, it's generally much higher quality overall. There are some good 3rd party games, but those are the ones that require a bit of research before you blow 40-50 bucks on them.

For example, I plan to pick up Trauma Center. It's a third party title by Atlus. I have little/no concern about this title based on the fact that Atlus has been around for a long time (LONG), and has never released a gimmicky or low-quality title. They're safe. Not to mention the fact that I know the previous Trauma Center, from the same company was a very good title, so in a way, I've got almost a double quality garauntee on it.

As for titles like Open Season, etc(Third party) you still have to check the Developer's background. Companies like Fox Entertainment tend to make lower grade products(I didn't say bad, there's a difference) and are more likely to do gimmicky gameplay, generally more appealling to the extremely young.

Then you have EA. EA traditionally makes decent, solid titles. But as far as newer systems go; they have a wonderful track record for screwing up first year titles on epic levels. Examples: EA's NFS titles for the PSP could have been fairly simple ports of their PS2 counterparts. Instead; they opted to use a new, lower grade portable engine, which game reviewers actually listed as the worst launch title on the system. Continuing through this, their initial 360 titles. They rereleased NFS:MW for the 360, but chose not to include the 'Black Edition' content, also giving no 'Black Edition' on the system. They deliberately didn't include the premium content on the next-gen version. Furthermore, they released Madden '06 for the 360 as a stripped down port, in which they actually removed a game-mode ALTOGETHER. Needless to say, Madden '06 was the most quickly traded title in the first month after launch. Game stores had a good supply of used copies within a week, I doubt they may ever 'run out'.
***Now, I would like to note, that EA's more recent releases for the PSP and the 360 have shown much more promise, but that's roughly one year after console launch. If you're looking at EA titles in the first six months of the Wii; it may be a good idea to go somewhere like GameCrazy(Inside Hollywood Video) and try before you buy, just to be sure of quality.

Really, it comes down to checking a developer's track record. If they're known for releasing terrible movie games, odds are that they won't do a whole lot better with the Wii; because a new controller like this is going to be a new challenge on top of the normal development process.

I probably went into some grotesque and unnesecary detail here; but perhaps someone will find it interesting; or perhaps I'm the only one who is just that bored. :D

ok so when the wii with insanely cool controls come out, you said about researching games a little more, wanna explain that? Cause yeah i think im the kinda person that looks at games and when i see a cool title, like literally, a cool picture ill immediately get it. Really bad habit and really bad on my money.

Handsom if you could give me tips (i know looking at reviews on the net works, but usually not all the time, it kinda depends on your style i guess) on looking for good quality games that would be great. (argh getting off topic like always!!!)

@abyss, let me know what kind of games you like, or even gimme a list of your top ten, and I can get a feel for you; then I'll suggest titles, I don't suggest without knowing the person's unique tastes.

Well, an obvious pick from your list would be LoZ:TP, but it seems from your taste you'll definitely want to pick up Super Smash Bros. Brawl in March. If you're looking for a simplified racing experience, Excite Truck isn't bad, just don't expect a hi-def masterpiece. It's very straight-forward, but the controls are easy to pick up. And the courses are interesting enough to keep you going for a while.

Despite the 'cool' factor of getting a racing wheel for your wiimote; I would suggest staying away from Monster 4x4 and GT Pro Racing, both feel floaty, as Ubisoft is not accustomed to making racers, and it clearly is not their fuerte.

If you like fun and frantic, yet simple; give Raving Rabbids a try. It's got more than decent multiplayer staying power.

Also, (And it pains me to say this one) if you're an arcadey fighting fan;(Again, I really hate saying this) you should probably consider DBZ:T2. Normally, I'm 60% resistent to anime based games(I liked dot hack and a couple others); and I'm almost 100% opposed to anime-based fighting games, HOWEVER: reviews state that the title is great fun, provided you as the player can suspend some degree of your dignity. Apparently, it's great fun trying to perform Kamehamehas(If I mispelled this, I really don't care, because honestly it's probably gibberish in *any* language, so I don't think it matters)

Also worth looking into:
-Trauma Center: Challenging; intuitive; and addictive deceptively simple gameplay.
-Elebits: If you were a fan of Katamari Damacy, or even if you missed it altogether, this one looks to be a boatload of quirk-intensive fun.
-Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam: This title is getting better reviews than Project 8 on the PS3. Why? Because they finally did something really new with the gameplay; by focusing on speed and raw fun rather than the highest trick combo and realism. It borrows a bit from the feel of the SSX series, while still showing a new feel that is welcome for the sports genre.

Hopefully that list of (Mostly released) titles helps a bit. I know a lot of the other titles if anyone's got questions.

Oh; and as for the topic of the thread, the controls need no improvement. The only place you ever see wobble is the system menu for some reason; and it's nothing that could ever mess you up. I'm thoroughly pleased with the investment.
