Can anyone suggest a decent pci e x16 graphics card for up to £75? Should have ddr2 if poss and perhaps ddr3? (I don't know if cards with ddr3 are this cheap yet) For a general system, watching movies, some gaming but not the latest games.

Thanks

i know you said £75 but for £80 this is a steal,
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn...roductID=462635

£73 gets you this,

the 1650 will stomp all over any other card for that price, it will keep up with the 7600gt and costs about the same as a 7600gs.

Thanks alot marsey you are being a great help.

The sapphire rx1650 looks very good, but my monitors lead is a normal vga plug (fixed at one end to the monitor) and I see it only has two dvi's and an s video on the back of that card. Can I still get it to work?

I just saw a review of that card where it got one out of five and the reviewer recommended the nvidia 7600gt chipset.

Any comments?

shocked, all the ones iv read say the 1650 keeps up with the 7600gt.

the 7600gt is a good card, in fact its mine, but it costs a £100+,

just did some looking and the sneaky wankers have just rebadged a x1600, sorry i have pointed you to a bit of a duffer there.the 1600s are not better (well about the same) than the 7600gs (the 2nd link).

i thought it was one of these.

this is good for comparing how gcards perform with different games and benchmarks.

No problem about the info, we can only rely on what we read in most cases. Cheers for the link to the comparison page at tomshardware.

Ok I did a search for nvidia 7600gt, and it comes up with many cards made by different manufacturers. I don't really understand this aspect of graphics cards yet. The actual GPU on the card is the same in all of them, it's just made by different companies?

So if it's a bfg 7600gt, it has an nvidia 7600gt gpu but on a card made by bfg? Are all the features the same on all the different cards? Whats the difference between them?

The asus one is 91 pound including delivery according to pricegrabber.co.uk (even though it shows as 101 pound without delivery when I go to the site that sells it). Whereas the XFX one is around 130, why?

What about this one I saw on ebay?

Is that a good deal?

Also, I live in London and I can get to computer fairs easily, there is one this saturday. Would I be likely to pick one up at the fair in central london for an equal or better price than I can get online? Also this question in regards to case and psu, mouse and keyboard, HDD and finally DVD-RW?

Sorry for asking so many questions at once!

no it was my bad, if i had looked at the specs i would of known, sorry.

the 7600gt is a good card, it can keep up with the big boys at lowwer resoutions, thats why i got one.

your right they all use the same g73 gpu, but some makers use different ram chips, dif coolers/fans, change the board colour and set the clock speeds at higher than the refrence speed (its a good thing but not essential) and then they throw in the extras, free game, free software and cables and such, none of it is free as you will notice in the prices but you get what you pay for. all of them can be manualy overclocked, mine is running at 615mhz core clock and 840mhz ram clock which is higher than any factory overclocked card.

as long as you get one from a big brand name you will get samsung ram, a good copper heatsink, and a good warrenty. if you import one you will get a good price but if it breaks your stuck with it.

computer fairs are great if you know what your looking for, you get some great prices and if you try you can haggle aswell, the down side is sometimes there will be the things you want and some times theres nothing your looking for, swings and roundabouts.

If anyone is interested, I ended up getting a Galaxy (not the best brand in the world for the 7600gt apparently) 7600gt from ebay, the seller is based in the uk and is called uk_supplie. The price was very very good (check them out) and I'm very happy with the cards performance! As far as I have seen, these prices on 7600gt cannot be beaten.
