16x Is No Different To 4x

On Nero Express, when I burn from DVD to DVD, how come 4x takes 15 minutes to copy and burn an entire DVD (Quick Copy) but upping it to 16x still makes it copy and burn in 10 minutes!
According to the article about 16x on this site, it should copy and burn an entire DVD in 3 1/2 minutes.
Is it a firmware problem?
Any help would be great thanks!

Hi mate, thanks for the response.
I'm using Taiyo Yuden's and my Nero version is 6.
I really don't want to change either because Taiyo Yudens are the best (My opinion and reviews on the net) and Nero 7 is absolute rubbish!
So is there any way out of this? lol
Also, the Taiyo Yudens I buy are 16x instead of the 8x.

These times are correct....

The difference is 5 minutes between the the 4X and the 16X...what you aren't taking into consideration is that the 3 1/2 minutes give or take to burn a DVD is only for burning the DVD, Recode/DVD Shrink still has to go through the process of compressing the data and prepare your movie for burning. Your times seem to be spot on, no need to change anything.

That does sound absolutely rediculous mind you...
Not saying I don't believe you, I'm saying it's utter stupidity on the part of the people who invented the 16x speed!
Why go through all that effort of finally making something 4 time faster than 4x to get it just 33% faster instead of 75%???

It's not rediculous at all if you understand what the different processes are when you are making a backup...try this:
Instead of auto burning with Nero, choose Hard Disc Folder as your output and allow the encoding to finish. Once it has finished open Burning Rom or Express (whichever you choose) and burn your DVD at 4X, repeat the process at 16X and you will see the difference.
In order to see the difference in the burn times of 4X and 16X you have to take the encoding process out of the equation.
In both instances you listed in your first post the encoding took approx. 5 minutes...the 4X burn took approx. 10 minutes, at 16X your burn took approx. 5 minutes. See the difference?
EDIT: If you really want to know how fast you are burning use Imgburn...you can actally see how fast your burn starts out (it doesn't start at 16X I can guarantee you that), your maximun burn speed and your average burn speed. Nero only tells you it's burning at the speed you set it at, you never really know unless you do some math. Imgburn does this math for you.

You haven't told us what speed your DVD writer is capable of. Putting a 16x DVD blank in a writer only capable of 4x wont speed things up. Another thing is, your computer may not be capable of delivering data at 16x speed. That's why there are test modes to check.
Nero Infotool will tell you what your drive can do if you can't remember.

Will look into that when I've got time!
I've got an insurance claim to sort out today though as some idiot came into my car!
I've also got Whiplash of the trapezius so ££££££££ coming my way!
