Hello all..I have just received my pulse dvd from my bro-in law, and I am trying to back it up.....Disc 2 works flawlessly using dvd decrypter/dvd-shrink......Disc 1 however, gets to about 50%, in DVD Decrypter, and then I get all kind of un-recoverable read errors.also...when I go to play the dvd disc one....It hangs Cyberlink player...but disc 2 instantly starts working fine.Now...the question from you Guru's is....Is this Disc one bad, or is it something else?....I was able to finally get it to back up on a different computer using the same methods...But only with a dvd rom on that machine...But is the dvd rom on the other machine(lite-on) a better reader to read it?, or Is something messed up on the first computer that will not read it?.This is very annoying, and I have spent lot of time to get this to back up...but no luck so far....Kind of weird that this is the only disc that I have problems with, and all my other "legit store bought"movies have no problem.....Very curious to hear your input..I have searched all over the net, and some say that it is a nvidia driver conflict or something(I have an asus mobo with the nvidia chipset, but not for sure exactly what to do...Thanks Eveyone in a advance...Dirtylarry

1st, be sure your drive/drives are not in PIO Mode. They should be in Ultra DMA Mode, probably UDMA Mode 2. If they are in Ultra DMA Mode 2, next. Do you have the Nvidia IDE Drivers installed? If so, uninstall them! If you are running Windows XP, you do not need them. OK, if you do not have Nvidia IDE drivers installed, or uninstalling does not work, try AnyDVD. You can use it free for 21 days. There coud be some type encryption on that disc that Decrypter can't get past. Post back you results for more help.
P.S. Be SURE that disc 1 is clean and no scratches. This WILL cause read errors and can also cause the reader to revert to PIO Mode.
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

well, I installed the standard ide controllers, but still no luck, and I also tried AnyDVD again, and ripit4me, and a few others, but no luck....none of them were able to do it...all failed somewhere in the process...I almost have to assume it is a bad disc....any ideas???

It's always nice to have more than one reader/burner. You pegged it in your post:
Quote: ...But is the dvd rom on the other machine(lite-on) a better reader to read it?,
With 2 systems and 4 different opticals when I have a problem like yours I try to read the disc in another optical and hopefully (usually) one of them will read it. That's just the way it is, I don't think there is anything that can be done to your burner.
My retired NEC 3520 burner was a horrible reader, it always seemed to choke on lightly scratched discs that my old LG reader could easily read.

maybe it scratched do you have a disc doctor ? look very close on the disc for a blur or bad scratch and even a crack it sounds like a bad disc not your pc do you run AnyDVD in the background ?use toothpaste to rub out the blurs and scratches. If a different movie dose not do the same thing it's the disc and make sure you use Verbatim disc to make sure its not your blanks that are bad. Also if its too big to fit on a 4.7 you might have to use Nero Recode . Shrink and Decrypter will work most of the time but sometimes it get a disc to big to shrink.
