Playing a Video CD with ILO DVDR05

I have made a Video CD with pictures and music. I have tried burning it to all kinds of disc's. My Ilo DVD player always tells me unknown dics when I try to play it. I have played two that a relative made and they burn theirs to a DVD+R Verbatim. Is it the difference in format with the software we are using to create these disc's? Or could it be the brand of disc I am using.
