Sorry If I imposed myself on another thread, if I did, here is a new one. I am running a Dell laptop. Trying these new Sony DVD-R, version 2.1 accucores. Burned a CD-R today and it worked. Here's my log. Any help is good, thanks.

Hi snohiphop
Here's some suggestions for you.

The drives firmware is up to date and you are using good media but you are getting this Illegal disc .
Basically means your drives firmware doesn't support them.
For this drive get some 8x media instead of the 16x speed you are using.
Same brand or look for Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Maxell.

Simulation failed at 2x
Give it a shot at 4x if you can - see if that does any better.

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS'
Roxio & Nero don't always play well together. Uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool to completely remove it.

Give those a go and let us know.

@snohiphop

You need to edit your Nero serial number out of your post. It starts 1C82.....and do what Binkie suggests.

I tried to change the media to FujiFilm in a hope that it would work. However, I get the same error. I did not see any 8x media at the Best Buy store. Also, my burner only burns at 2.4x max.

From what I found on this drives specs was 2.4x was the max for dual layer and 8x for -/+ R. If it's only giving a max speed on these discs of 2.4x it's another sign the drive doesn't fully recognize the media and will be hit or miss.
Again you're getting the illegal disc on the Fuji's made by Ritek.

My laptop (different drive then yours) doesn't like 16x media either - 8x not a problem. The laptop manufacturers are the ones to update the drive and they are not the best at keeping them up to date to handle the newer media.

8x media in store is getting harder to find depending where you are.
I get Taiyo Yuden at http://supermediastore.com - you can still get 8x there.

Not a problem snohiphop :)
You might also want to check out other stores like Staples, Office Depot, Circuit City etc for lower rated media - some may still have it in your area. Look for the ones posted above.

I prefer to buy the majority of mine online cause I always know what I'm getting and who made it :)
