QAM TUNERS

I NEED SOME ANSWERS PLEASE....I have two televisions with QAM tuners. The SONY LCD RPTV (KDF-50WE655) brings in all my local HDTV channels and then some (approximately 25 or so). The VIZIO LCD FLAT PANEL (L32-10A) brings in 4 OR 5 channels (CBS, PBS, CW,AND 2 MUSIC CHANNELS).
I have SD cable service (Cablevision).I do not use an antenna.
SAME HOUSE, SAME CABLE SERVICE. Why is this a problem? Are QAM tuners different or am I missing something here? Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
