Actually, I have a few questions. Can anyone recommend decent lightscribe media (for uk)? Are sata dvd burners proving to be good? I am buying a burner in the next few days and I don't know if I should go for sata or stick to IDE? Obviously sata is great for HDD but I have no experience of them with dvd burners. The two burners I've been looking at are:

Both have lightscibe, one is sata one is ide. Or any other drives you would recommend? Are there sata300 burners?
Thanks!

Stick with IDE, even though SATA is meant to be faster...
Also try SVP.co.uk for Verbatim Lightscribe media :)
That samsung is a good drive. also, you could look out for a Pioneer 111D.

Why would it be best to stick with IDE?
Thanks for the link

SATA burners are still new technology (realtively), so they aren't as well know, not as well supported and most people don't know lots about them...
It's merely easier to stick with IDE. There's no real advantages or disadvantages of either so...

A guy from the shop also just told me he wouldn't trust one to install windows on. I guess I'll get an IDE with a small round cable, or fold the normal one. Thanks

it is funny that you say that Samsung drive is pretty good. i posted a thread a few weeks ago and everyone told me that Samsung was bad, so i did not buy it. i was just wondering if opinions have changed?

No, some members don't like that Samsung drive, as a few people have had problems with it.
I think it's a reasonably good drive; That's my opinion though.

If you are looking for a good lightscribe dvdrw drive, try to find a Lite-On SHM-165H6S. Personally I would stay away from Samsung dvdrw drives.

My personal choice would be the LiteOn that mort reccomended, or a Pioneer 111D.
But I'm not saying the samsung is the best; but I've heard some good comments about it. lol
