Hello all

My friends PC is making a buzzing noise as if something has gone. When he turns on the PC the main light comes on but that's it, the operatng system and the post won't start, and it starts making a buzzing noise. I think it is the processor but I am not sure. Any advise is very much appreciated.

that is the psu doing the noise, try another psu & disconnect all cables to drives, remove all cards & ram except videocard & 1 stick of ram.

check the can shaped objects on the motherboard as they are capacitors, they are supposed to be flat topped not domed

I checked the compacitors and one looks a little bent over but is attached still. Would this matter?

It looks rounded on the top, not flat, like it it is slightly swollen. Would this make a difference?

It wouldn't be the processor would it? I think I'll tell him to change his motherboard.

I changed his motherboard and took back the PSU for another one and now all is working fine. I still don't know why this happened. Money is tight but buying new parts is better in the long run. Thank you very much ddp for all your help and advice, I have learned something new about compacitors and I appreciate your help.
