Hello I have a Sony external DRX500UL.That will not record on DVD-R. +R records fine.Any help would be greatly appreciated.I have it hooked up on USB 2.0 PIII

What -R media are you using? sony's can be fussy about their media.

Thanks for the response.I used Fuji and K Hypermedia and none seem to work.It burns to about 60% and cancels out.Any DVD+R works fine

yep Sony is mighty fussy about media. hypermedia I assume is the cheaper brands, avoid it. Strangely enough Fuji +R/+RWs work fine.

I've come to the conclusion a long time ago when I ran through five pricey verbatim -Rs that the sony burner is not all that competent when dealing with -Rs in general (although this is just an opinion as some folk have not had problems with -Rs, and if they have they haven't said so). I got a pioneer A05 to do -Rs instead. A pricey solution to a what may amount to be a simple problem, but I save time with two burners churning out backups.
