I just bought An American Haunting.. and I wanted to back it up.
I have the lastest version of DVD Shrink, AnyDVD, and CloneDVD 2.. it goes through the movie fine and burns it. But when I play it on my dvd player, the pixels mess up. Then the movie stops and freezes. But it burnt without any errors.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi snap_pay
Sounds like it could be a few things so let's check these:
°Media used - which are you using?
°What speed did you brun at?
°What's the make, model and firmware version of the burner? May need an update. In Clone go to 'write existing data'. The 1st screen will list the make and model - the firmware version is after rev.

I have a Lite-On DVDRW SHM-165h6s rev. HS06 burner.
I've been burning dvd's alot and this is the first time that it has happened with the pixels being messed up.

Ok 1st update the firmware on the burner - you are a few behind. The latest is HSOE. This can help the drive use the correct write strategies on media - esp newer media.

Imation is the best - they use different manufacturers - so you never know who you will get. Poorer quality media is a big cause of the problems you are having. They can be hit or miss
Better to use would be Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (instore look for made in japan Sony or Fuji only).
Take the burn speed down to 8x.
Give those a go and let us know.

I updated my burner, I put my speed down to 8x.. still the same. I dont understand because I back up all my movies and none has ever done this before. Little Man does it at the very beginning as well then it levels out and works fine.

Play it back in the burner and see if it has the same problems.
Using better media like the ones aboves improve you chances of having little if any problems. It's all I use and minimal at best problems. They are very compatible w/ burners and players.
Imation uses several manufacturers for their media - most not that good - some discs will be fine some won't (been there - it's why I use the ones I do).

Then that's leads to the player not liking them - they can be picky.
Try the ones recommended - they can make all the difference in trouble free playing/burning.

I've ripped American Haunting with DVDFab Decrypter. No sweat.
Go to use DVDShrink and I get an 'Invalid Data File'
VTS_01_5.VOB
It's a file that has the credits rolling through it.
I ripped just the movie, and tried again, and still the same message.
Now what?

@snap_pay
what you are experiencing is a classic problem with using paper stick on labels for the disc, are you doing labels?

It didnt have a sticky label on the dvd.
What sort of labels should I get because I do have a few dvds with paper labels on them. :)
Thanks ahead of time.

you don't want to use paper labels at all. they are an inferior style of product that can do damage to your dvds and their players.
if you absolutely have to label your dvds, the thing to do is buy dvds with a printable surface and get a printer capable of printing directly on the discs.

@HenryHawk
What version of DVDFab are you using? The latest is 3.0.4.0.
If that doesn't work than use RipIt4Me.

I have alot of Dvd's with the labels on them. Some work fine, others freeze up til the label is removed. I've seen other people make labels, but they seem glossier than regular ones, and have no problems playing in a dvd player. I'd like to make mine like that.

Might want to consider getting a printer like the Epson R series that prints directly on inkject discs.
They look really good - much better than the paper labels - and none of the problems that come with them.

binkie7,
Thanks a ton! I'd received the "new version available" about a week ago, but too much was going on to take the few minutes to download it. Then, I never got the message again.
Downloaded the new version, ripped it, and Shrink is goin' at it right now.
'Preciate it much!
