im currently a ripping newbie right now and would like to know some things.....

what is the best ripper i can use (freeware) so that i can put my dvds on my harddrive and watch them without the disk in my computer?

is there any program that would change the format of the files that are on my computer so that it wont take up so much space on my harddrive?

To start off, I would suggest use download dvdshrink, imgburn and Media Player Classic.

In my opinion, the best freeware to rip and burn your DVD's would be RipIt4Me, hands down.

A fellow member here at AD, arniebear, authored an excellent guide to use the software(s).

Read it carefully, follow step-by-step, install all the req'd softy's and you're off to the ripp'in races.

As for cleaning up you hardrive, burn to files to disc.

I'm also interested in what's considered the best software for my project: I have a DVD I created on iMac (iMovie) but I didn't save the original footage (d'oh!) to re-edit into another movie/DVD. I wonder if I can use some of the available software out there to recover the chapters individually from my DVD and reedit them? If so which? Please reply ASAP -- I stand to make some money doing this for friends, but need to know pretty quick. Thanks!

i often use this kind software,recently, http://i'manidiot.com edited by ddp is a good one, which has high speed.
