I downloaded Mai Hime Senretsu, after I extracted the files it gave me three folders namely Mai Hime, PSP and X folders. I followed certain instruction from random sites to use UMD Gen and took a random umd_data.bin file plus the Mai Hime folder only and after the process, I only managed to get the game's preview screen to run on my PSP browser. As I tried to click on it to load the game, it says unable to start game or something. Where did I go wrong?

Get VCDRomX 3.6 from here http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/183 and follow the tutorial
Look for this files within the folders, UMD_DATA.BIN and PSP_GAME
1.Open up vcdromx 3.6a english
2. A prompt will come up, enter the name of the iso you would liek to save the rebuilt iso as
3.Drag the folder PSP_GAME and the file UMD_DATA.BIN into the window
4. Click File>Build VCDROM
5. When building is done, click File>Convert File
6. Select type as .FCD and open up the fcd you made earlier
7. In second drop down box select ISO and check off "Overwrite and Rename Source"
8. Click convert and wait for the iso to finish converting.
9. Done
or follow this guide but no one seemed to get it working.

It's not quite as easy as that.
Three folder games were around when RUNumd was being used to load 2.5-2.6 on 1.5. Those were the days before Devhook firmware emulation.
Anyways, - you need to
1.The folder Mai Hime you have needs to be renamed to PSP_GAME. You can delete the X and PSP folders.
2.Then you need to go to PSP-hacks or somewhere and find the Universal UMD_DATA.BIN file to go with your PSP_GAME folder when you rebuild your iso.
3.You will also need to unpatch the boot.bin file thats within PSP_GAME/SYS_DIR (or USR/DIR, can't remember right now), there is a program to do that that you should be able to get from psp-hacks too,its called Generic Boot Bin Unpatcher or something like that.
4. And then use UMDGEN or VXCDROM to create your iso file. It might not work though as some files get switched and stuff making an iso into three folders.
If it doesn't work, your best bet is to download the iso again. I think all that I said was correct, it's been a long time since we had to any stuff like this to get isos to work, kinda miss it!
Good luck.

Because the way the folders were set up isn't the same as downloading a regular iso.
It would have started off as a regular iso, but would have been changed so that it would work with run UMD. The umd_data file gets deleted, and the PSP_GAME folder is renamed to whathever the iso name is. Then the x folder is made, which is a dump of 2.5 and/or 2.6 firmware files. There was also a file in PSP/GAME. Say it was Lemmings. You'd have X, LEMMINGS folder that went in the root, and PSP/GAME/LEMMINGS% which had an eboot in it so you could launch the game from the game menu. The eboot was patched to the boot.bin, which is why it has to be unpatched to rebulid the iso.
It's probably much easier to just download a different release of the game.
Found this thread which might be of interest.

"Update: New Method 4
After some more researching I found yet another way to run the new ISOS. This method uses a modified version of RunUMD and an ISO patcher, to get the ISOs to work.
1.Obtain RunUMD (modified version), and ISO patcher from here: http://rapidshare.de/files/16887100/Gene...ck_and_BOOT.... Also download this file: http://rapidshare.de/files/17028377/x.rar.html .EDIT: The password to the archive is www.projectpsp.com. Extract the files from this archive into a folder called X on the root of your memory stick.
2.Extract the contents of the .zip file, to your hard drive.
3.From your harddrive copy the two folders named runumdmod and runumdmod% to your PSP\GAME folder in your memory stick.
4.Obtain umdgen from http://www.umdgen.com. Run UMDGen and extract your ISO onto your memory stick. Delete the file called UMD_DATA.BIN. Your memory stick should have the following folders on it: X, PSP and PSP_GAME (from your ISO).Use the executable file included to patch the boot.bin and eboot.bin file in the PSP_GAME\SYSDIR folder on your memory stick.
5.Insert a UMD and start up the runumd mod on your memory stick, press X
7. Your game should start! "

Anyone kind enough to give me a link to this universal UMD_DATA.bin file for download? I've searched psp-hacks and googled around but no luck! =(

@npdyna- thanks for digging up my old guide :)
anyways, you dont need the UMD_DATA.BIN file, it works fine without it.
Just do what it says in my guide and you will be fine.
You can find my VCDROMx guide in my sig if you need it.

No worries about the guide Eternalis, it was by far the best one I could find. Cool to know it doesn't' need the UMD_DATA.bin, makes it a little bit easier I guess! Am I not the only one who misses the days of prx swapping, and all those elaborate lengths we went to so that our isos would work on 1.5?!

Well, followed every steps on using the VcdromX and I ended up with a "The game could not be loaded" message. I really think I am missing that crucial 'UMD_DATA.bin' file!
As for getting another download of that ISO, I would gladly have downloaded it if those were available; unfortunately this is the only one I could find. :(
