well the nintendo wii is now out and im sure people are hard at work trying to crack the console in other countrys right now bit the modding project would have to face this questions before mods could or can even work
1.first get the sd memory card after being formatted by the wii to be read by pc the reason why can anyone say save game exploits or even gamesave sharing
2.cracking the nintendo reading the disk backwards issues all nintendo gamecube and wii disks read backwards so some one would have to find a way to build a application that would allow the cd-rom drive on a standard pc to read backwards
3.then they would have to deal with the digital rights issue DRM and other security messures
and then the way to hack the system to except a hard drive
amazing what simple minded things people can think of im waiting a few months though to see what will happen someone somewhere in china where most everything is pirated will figure out a way or even in the u.k it is a simple race who can hack the fastest

Well look at how long it took to do a modchip for the GC. Given time there will probably be one for the Wii also. Most likely about the disc reading backwards on PC will probably be the same as the GC (some application or mod with the chip to transfer everything over to the PC and then burn from there).
I haven't really seen a protection yet that hasn't been cracked or altered to work on any system. Look at the PS3. Has not been out a week and there are reports that some people are already playing homebrew on it. Give it time. There will eventually be a mod out for the Wii. Someone, somewhere will mod it. It only takes time.
As for the hard drive issue who knows. It would be nice to have one hooked up to it. Hell it would even be nice to be able to hook a hard drive to the GC (not sure if there is a way).

Since the Wii has 2 USB 2.0 Ports it would be awesome to be able to hook up a External USB Hard Drive...
a WII Ver of Hdloader (PS2) and be able to backup games directly from the WII to the HD would be Awesome! SD Card Exploit ;)

I find this thread funny. Everyone talks like the process is started or some progress has been made. Really, all any of us are doing here is specualting ideas that we liked on other systems that have been altered.
It's like coming up with ideas for a movie based on Red Faction, coming up with stunts and effects you liked in other movies, and titling it 'And the Red Faction movie begins'. You, others, and myself have absolutely nothing to do with the efforts made on it. Nothing at all. The people who actually do the work don't even browse these forums, they are on much more specialized forums specifically designed for those topics.
Feel free to speculate, and say "wouldn't it be cool if" all day; but it's really about as useful as playing racketball by yourself.

definitely agreed. For the psp the like dark alex and booster they only basically post on forums for release dates or when they are released. The time between those is when they go home, into their rooms, and spend the rest of their lives trying to crack it.
Its not bad to imagine what you can do, in fact if might even spark some thought into someone and they may be the next dark alex for the wii.

Playing tennis on the Wii is kind of like playing racketball by yourself. :)

u can bet that the wii will be able to play back up games later on, but this is too soon!! The guys working on this now are probably still having trouble with the controls.
@mofos edit ur post instead of double posting to avoid getting caught by mods.

Yeah...
Is it possible to view pics and play MP3's of an external HD or thumbdrive instead of the SD because i have a 120gb external and it would be much cooler to use then a 2gb sd card
P.S 2gb is the Max the slot can support that sorta sucks owell

First thing is first lets actually try and get talking about modding I dont have a Wii until the 7th but anywayz.
Does the Gamecube softaware for ripping iso's read Wii games?
That is the first step
If everone works toghter we will help or find a way to backup games
For eg someone thats very smart and kean to backup a game will come and look at this and see the info we have gathered which will save him time and less time for us until a mod comes out!

......Because, really, they are going to scour the net looking for a bunch of people with nothing better to do than speculate about what we think might be cool; rather than just testing it out first hand. Honestly, this is the kind of thread that they would probably try to avoid. There's almost nothing more irritating to a homebrew developer than people lightly talking about what they want/expect the homebrew developer to do.
The logic makes my brain hurt and my heart sad.
