You need wireless internet to play right out of the box, but you can probably find a usb adapter online now, just not a nintendo brand one. I wouldn't let anyone log on to my account especially if they are asking if you have points they can spend.

The problem is that he can't log in, so you downloading games on his account wouldn't help matters. It's not like when he turns his console on magically its gonna be like some other guy bought these games they should be on this console too. The problem is he can't connect to the internet. Which means the Wii doesn't have a clue whats going on outside of his own console. He can't even set up an account or add points to it because he can't connect to the internet. The reason being he doesn't have wifi from what I gather. This means you'll have to grab a usb wifi adapter or if your cable modem has a usb cable attachment. Hope that helps if you need further assistance feel free to ask.

I for one have a different problem
Wii wont connect at all it gets that error 52030 all the time when i try to connect.
I called nintendo they said i had to manually assign ip address for the wii....by adding 10 to the end of my PC's IP address. Does me no good it still wont work.
Any suggestions? besides buying the usb wifi. cuz nintendo them selves cant even figure it out.
Probably the same prob with the DS not connecting to routers but i never had a DS anyone know what to do?
PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

I was having problems getting connected too. What I did was go into my router and figure out which IP the router was assiging to it, then I put that IP in the DMZ (De-Militarized Zone). That bassiclaly opens the Wii up totally (if there even become security/hacking issues against the Wii then this won't be a good idea.)
If I can figure out which ports need to be opened, I can just open those specific ports for the Wii. But untill then, the DMZ is the only way I could get mine to connect.

*Sigh* I love that everyone is JUST NOW realizing what a nuisance wireless networking really is...
I learned years ago, and made every effort to completely remove it from my setup. It's slow, it's innefecient; and it makes you vulnerable for wardrivers. (I don't care what kind of encryption you have, there's always brute force methods.) I finally got it COMPLETELY removed from my system about three months ago, and wouldn't you know it; the Wii put it right back in. Oh well.
As for USB adapters, etc; the Wii actually utilizes the exact same one as the DS does, it's the same part, and Nintendo now sells it as a DS/Wii USB Wireless adapter. So if you go to a store and pick it up, it is perfect. Although, ultimately you're STILL being forced to run wireless with it, one way or another. Nintendo has confirmed no interest in making a true wireless-free connection method. Which saddens me a lot.
The Weather, Internet Browser, and News are not yet available, but should be within the week. I lok very much forward to it.

I can connect my Wii wireless without problems, I had WPA-TKP security code so only input the hex code and connect was a breeze.
If you don't have wireless router, you can try using usb to ethernet dongles, but really I did not tested or you need some driver to Wii can use it. I will try I have 3 models and see what works.

I have a WiFi problem as well but I think its going to take RMA to nintendo to get it fixed.. When I go into set it up I cant see any of my SSID's that should be floating around my house. Yes all my routers broad cast the SSID so i've ruled that out. another side note, the lite on the wii that should be amber for the 24 hour connect is always red, I have never seen it turn amber even when its off.. I'm convinced that the wireless card in the wii is jacked.. any suggestions

It sounds like you already know what the problem is. I haven't heard of any systems being defective, but there inevitably have to be at least a few(Like any manufatured product, old or new). An RMA number might just be necessary.
Just as a quick and easy probe(Which you'll hate me for, but still worth the effort), you might try BOTH holding down the wireless router's reset button(s), ADN THEN unplugging them for one to two minutes straight. This way if there is any configuration that might be preventing the Wii from seeing it, it will dissapear; although if you've gone through great pains to configure your router, you will have to do that again too. Go figure.

Well after a day of paying with it, I found out what the problem was.. I changed the channel on the router from 6 to channel 1, that did the trick.. I don't understand why this is an issue. The benifit of channel 6 on any router is that it is the highest power setting you can get for both transmit and recieve. Im just glad it works, but it makes me wonder if Nintendo will adress this issue. I would like to have the option of what channel I run my wireless network on.

I have a different problem. I am using WiFi MAX for Wii and managed to connect it through my ethernet internet connection via bridging connections. Channel set to "11", WEP 64 bit enabled, etc. Everything looks good. My Wireless Network Connection created for the Wii looks like it is running at 54.0 Mbps.
However, although I successfully connected, I soon found myself disconnected. It seems that the "Repair" option for this connection managed to allow me to sign back on, but again, over and over, I am disconnected after about a minute or two.
Is this a configuration problem? Is it the WiFi Max? Is it my Wii? I have no idea. I called my broadband provider and was informed that the problem wasn't there, since I never experience this problem when using the regular internet via my laptop/desktop. Called Motorola about the modem and was told that it isn't because of the modem. The fact that I need to "repair" my connection after a few minutes to reconnect tells me it has to be something with either WiFi Max or some configuration issue on my side.
Any ideas on how to remedy this? It seems impossible to fix.

Well one tool that helps when troubleshooting network stuff is ethereal its free... Etheral was what pointed me to a layer 1 failure on the OSI model. a lot of time you can tell what is going on with your network by looking what is going on with packets and such... I dont have a clear under standing of your set up so I cant help at this point..
