Hello wise ones.

I was a fan of Final Fantasy I on the regular Nintendo eventually even beating the game with 4 black mages. Since then went on to play several more FF titles including III, VII, & VIII.

This year I've decided to introduce my father to gaming with a limited edition PS2. My question is: Is FF XII a reasonable starting place for a first time gamer in the FF world or should I consider going back further to VII or even I?

And if you have the inclination: What recommendations would you make for a beginner gamer for PS2?

Well it depends really if you father catches on stuff pretty fast or not. If he seems intelligent enough ( no ofence or anything) then I dont see why not. You just need to tell him the basics of an RPG since they can be one of the most genre that takes a lot of thinking. Like a first person shooter all what you need to know it the commands then you are all set. But with rpg's like ff they take more knowledge of games and such.

hey you want a good game that's fun and all that? i'd have to say ratchet and clank (if you want a platformer) one of the burnouts (for sheer mindless racing) maybe a kingdom hearts game (rpg with identifiable characters) or a beat em up.
I find the only problem with final fantasy is not being able to really like the characters! I mean who likes wakka? come on he's a plank!!!
And that's the bonus with kingdom hearts you get donald duck and goofy and everyone grew up with them... unless you lived in a shoe... mum why did you make me get in that shoe... oh whyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Great suggestions.

Kindom of Hearts
Ratchet and Clank over Jak and Dexter?

You have been a tremendous help.

well, i would say yea, start him off simple, maybe a racing game..then slowly introduce him to RPG...its really like a book, dont get him like Kingdom Hearts is a good game.. but still... i would say regular random battles..like before X, so maybe start him off with my favourite.. Final Fantasy 3 / 6..with terra..for SNES..

what about a football game?

my dad loves sports games and doesn't seem to really get the other games.

Could be that is in his 50's and just really into sports but I've found that even my uncles all like the sports games.
