Hello all, good to meet you's.
Sorry if this question's been asked before (I did search the forum before I posted to see if this had been covered) but I have a factory v1.5, a 9 year old Son and a few original games to go with my back-ups. I'm scared s**tless that my Son's going to press 'upgrade psp' on one of the original games so my question is, is there some kind of file that I can put on my memory card which would actually prevent an upgrade taking place if the doomsday upgrade button was pressed? And if not why not?
Thanks for any replies.

Use X-flax to get a 13.37 firmware and no update can be used on it.
Dont use this if you have custom firmware.

Thanks for the tip. Very unlikely that I'd choose this option though, as it's messing with the firmware that I'm trying to avoid in the first place. Is using x-flash the only way to stop an upgrade from within the system?
thanks

Pretty much.
Trust me, I was as affraid or more than you, but i just put it on my psp, CONNECTED THE CHARGERand, run the program, and scrolled down to that feature and i think a pressed [], the screen tell you what to press, and that was it. Then I took it out of my psp but later on i had to use for other stuff and started to like it.
Whether of not use x-flash i strong like recommend you to get Harley's custom firmware that can unbrick your psp from semi-brick and has some other good features, but specially because you fell safer when flashig you psp.
If interested here an excelent guide and file you need...

There are newer version but i used this one because it said FINAL and because of the good rating it received.

I mentioned this in another thread, set your parental control to 1 and a password only you know.
He will have to come to you to get it started, a pain in arse i know but its a step you could take, awkward as it is...

Good stuff.
I think one of the problems for people like me who are new at all this is that the 'bricking' scenario has been blown out of all proportion which puts people off doing it from the get go, I bet it's only a minute amount of psp's that are bricked and those brickings will have taken place because the person doing it took a wrong step in the upgrade.
