has anyone even tried to copy a wii game yet, just to see if it will work? there was a rumor with the GC that the discs spun backwards, but I heard it was untrue, and if it were, there should be some kind of program to reverse the computer's drive direction (taken from tabletpc's post). anyways, i was just wondering if anyone had tried this.

Yes. People posted in this forum about it on Friday, the computers can't read it at all.

...And yes. The 'rumor' is true. It was never a rumor; it has been confirmed thoroughly. GCN discs are backwards and it's a good bet that Wii discs are too. As for a program to do it; it's not all that simple, I know the data is backwards; but I don't know if the motor actually has to spin the disc backwards. If that's the case, most drives wouldn't support that kind of function. HOWEVER: It seems logical that a device could RAW read the disc, store ALL the data onto a physical disc drive; and then re-order all of it in a manner that can be understood.

What people would then do with it varies wildly. I'm sure some people woul attempt to emulate it, using advances in the code used for the GCN, seeing as the code is so much similar. There would, of course, be the individuals who would take advantage and try to use it for illegal things. For this reason, I hope that it's a while before any software like that is released.

I tried copying a GameCube game ISO download from Internet, to see play on Wii, but is detected to the Wii, so DVD ROM works but I can not get play so maybe needs other magic touch.

im most interested in hooking up a hard drive to my wii and playing wii games off of it...fast load times are good, and everything is organized.

also, i know with the 360 people connected their dvd drives from the 360s to the computers, and reading the discs through those. maybe that could work out here

-A GCN image will not work when burned and put into a Wii. The Wii, much like the GCN knows that the data is backward, if it encounters anything else, it will not attempt to read it; because the system should never encounter a regular disc in any situation. It's beautiful what simple logic tells you.

-As for HDD use, who knows. If someone mods it I'm sure it will be an effective method. But then again, Nintendo can update the system, even when it's turned off; so they would be quick to kill that sort of thing.

-Lastly, the 360 idea. It might work, though nintendo has never been known for standardized hardware like that; so it would probably require a lot more effort. But then again, nothing's impossible; never underestimate an individual with a little knowledge and a lot of time.

Nintendo can not update the system if:
1. You pull the power.
2. You never put it on the internet.

Personally mine isn't connecting to the internet for a few months until I am 100% sure everything is working... Plus some mods might come out for systems that aren't updated ;). Take care

Normally, I'm in the same boat you are. But I'm really rooting for Nintendo here, so I'm planning on buying a decent number of games.

I dont mind paying for Wii games and have never modded a Nintendo Console but my PS2 is.
I hope that people do buy games and not burn but Im really hopping there will be a Modd which lets you play VC games without paying and down laoding of a anintendo Server because i think paying 12Au for an N64 game which is 10 years old and I like is a real rip off if it were like 3-5au per game but freakin 12au.
i hope a mod comes out for that but not for burning proper wii games because they should cost 100au because they are new.
Even if a Mod dont come for the VC I will still donwload SM 64 but thats it my ass I will pay 12au for each N64 game after paying about 99.95au for each one 6-10 years ago!!
