Can't burn the movie "Hard Luck". Tried 2 different copies and had the same result both times. Gets to 11% on Shrink and gives the Cyclic Redudancy error. Can't get past the error on Decrypter either. Running AnyDVD in the background. Suggestions?

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
failed to read file x:\ data error cyclic redundancy Data error

Possible causes
The disk is either badly scratched, diry/smudged in areas where info can't be read correctly, a bad press (digitally faulty), or copy protection shrink can't handle because of its discontinued support/advancement.

-If the disk looks dirty/smudged, clean it, then try again.

-If it's copy protection that's causing shrink to spit out the error... then try any one of these options:

1) DVDfab decrypter, it's a very good and supported free whole movie ripper/decrypter. Use it to rip the video files to your HDD, open the files ripped using shrink and proceed as you normally would.

DVDFab

2) Ripit4me, it takes the ripping/transcoding/and burning process and makes it a one click task. You'll need DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS to make it all work.

Ripit4me

3) Download and install the trial version of AnyDVD. Once installed, run DVD dhrink as you normally would to produce a backup, AnyDVD runs in the backround to crack the copy protection on the disk.

anydvd

-If the disk is clean and any of the above methods fail, you could have a possible bad press, if so then you'll need to exchange it for another and try it again.

Tried DVDFAB also. Same thing, won't go past 11%. Everything else I ever tried, I was able to complete, but not this one. As I said in the first post, I am on my second original disk. Not dirty, not cracked, not scratched.

ok..... here are some guides for you:

as originally quoted from Alkohol:

All you really need are:

<1> DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.8Beta (FREE & simple) http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
<2> RipIt4Me (FREE & simple)

Method 1: DVDFAB guide

DVDFAB Decrypter +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guide Just skip STEP #2 (VobBlanker), unless DVD Shrink is throwing up (or having issue) or you're an advanced user and know what/where to blank out.

Method 2: RipIt4Me guide

Here RipIt4Me +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn full guide Just follow this guide slowly and you'll be able to rip any DVDs around the world.

Enjoy the new guide.
great advise from a great member..... use it and enjoy!

BTW, the answer to every question is not a guide. But, I finally got it done. Used Vob Blanker, then Shrink and Decrypter with AnyDVD in the background.

I beg to differ..... cause it seemed that you didn't use the proper way of using the programs you had: Shrink, DVDDecrypter, AnyDVD..... all of which should have done the job, and you claim it didn't! and then you said:

I am on my second original disk. Not dirty, not cracked, not scratched.
sooooooo I knew that it wasn't a bad press or dirty disk.... so that left me to believe that you didn't use the programs properly soooooooooooo whaaaaaaaaalllaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh THE GUIDES!

This movie is a SONY flick that I was able to back up using AnyDVD and Nero 7 Recode2. Be advised that if you choose to alter the playing format using AnyDVD's "Jump Directly To Main Movie" this can cause play back malfunctions skipping along with audio trouble though the feature works in most cases. Sony distributed DVD films are a bit uniquie as their basic encryption minus Arccos can sometime cause trouble even when using the best in decryption software like AnyDVD when combine with non-decrypting burning software. The point I wish to stress is there is no need in most cases (High 90% Percental)and in my experience to combine a current or updated version of AnyDVD with any other decrypting software. The need for a multiple software process in a backing up a single flick is attributed to user error again if AnyDVD is being used. AnyDVD is very thorough and powerful decrypting software that will allow any user to combine it's decrypting ability with most if not all non-decrypting burning software. Many of this forums most experience members often warn against combining multiple decrypting software as this will result in a software conflict that will produce many of the errors reference when doing so. As of late I have not had the need to use any other decrypting software besides AnyDVD (Recently updated to 6.0.8.5) I ask that if you have not made AnyDVD your main choice for decrypting, try it out and let it go to work and you too will be amazed at how much time you save when using this software all by it's lonesome. Again use it with a non-decrypting burning software like Nero 7 or 6 Recode 2 or any other of your choice.:P
