im playing oblivion and tiger woods and after several minutes of play, the game exits and brings up a wondows error report. i have speed fan and it measures my cpu temperature at 61 degrees. would is the problem??? i have P4 3.2ghz 1gb of ram, and a 6800gt 256mb graphics card, and 450watt psu
if thats after gaming 61 is hot but thats not scorcing for a p4. if thats just sat idle i think it could be the problem. what about your6800? what temps is that hitting? forceware should tell you, the latest one is good but doesnt like to oc.
it could be that the fan on your cpu heatsink is broke, it could be,if your lucky, that it(the fan and fins on the heatsink) just need cleaning. which is what i would do first,then if its still the same look for a replacement one.
what about your case, does your case have any other fans? or mounts and vents? if so make sure they are also clean and free of blockages. can you reroute some of your cables so that they dont block the airflow through your case as this will help keep things cool.
if you need a new fan it might be easier to get a whole new hsf unit, the arctic cooling freezer pro is one of the best as is akasa's evo 120 (not sure of your socket so i cant post a link to one). if you do fit a new one you will need somthing like this to clean and refit it, and this is a good guide to do it.
