JVC DVD RECORDER FINALIZING

I recorded my first dvd today and I finalized it at the end . It will play back on the DVD recorder but will not play on any computer or any other dvd player , they can't see it .Did I do something wrong ?
It is a JVC RECORDER and and the dvd had to be a DVD-R . Thank you as I am new to doing this .
