Help! Subtitle not appearing in virtualdub's preview

I try to preview what the subtitle looks like when I use the subtitler filter in virtualdub. However, what I could see was a black band in the upper part of the preview screen and the movie clip was in the other half or more. I could not see any subtitle. Can anyone help me to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.
