I have a Wii and a Wired internet connection.

Will a standard "USB to LAN" connection work to hook Wii up to the internet?

Thanks.

Well it might because niontendo never stated that it you needed a Nintendo USB 2 lan instaed they always said Wired interent connection with use of a USB 2.0 to LAN adapter

I said that in another thread How much room do they ahve at the back a etherenet port takes 1cm^2 room.
P.S who ever reckons that not true just look at the slim PS2 Ethernet port 2x usb and is like half or more less in size then the Wii i think they just wanted the extra money because that USB 2 LAN adapter costs 12us while adding a buil in one would have like added 5us to our purchase price so it would have been like 255us
Also Whats with the 2 Wi-fi antenas in the wii isnt one enough

Don't feel bad; a lot of us are in that boat. The ironic thing though; is that PS3 users had to pay more for the 'deluxe' 60gb model to get the wireless function that we all dispise so much.

Anywho, I too am looking forward to a wired solution. My router is less than six feet from my Wii, and the connection is still..... Weird.

Well, if it's at all possible, it may truly be a wise decision to hold off till January, when they release the wired network adapter, because it will work much better than this wireless nonsense. You can tinker, and you can tweak; but getting a solid, consistent connection just doesn't happen.

One of the cooler functions of the Wii, is being notified (Via blue glowing light) that you have messages, even without using your system.

-The trouble is, that the system can't keep a connection for extended periods of time, so it can't accurately tell you that without running throught the connection setup again, because it lost connection to your router. That, or reset your router, because it's wireless function is malfunctioning(I've had to go through this debacle with multiple customers, it is an eternal pain in my side with any router manfufacturer I've encountered....Grrr). Needless to say, I'm somewhat opposed to wireless connections for anything other than the occasional extremely light user who just wants to do some e-mail and chat. Go figure.
