Which one is an overall better DVD media? Price is not an issue for me because they cost lesser in the US.

If it is made by Taiyo Yuden, buy it! Verbatim is Excellent Media though. I would rank Taiyo Yuden #1, Verbatim #2. Of course unless you live in the U.K. Where Mr. Lucky Man... "Creaky" lives, He get's to Enjoy the Best of both, Verbatim Media Made by Taiyo Yuden!
Creaky, you Lucky Man You!
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Nah, I'm not going to order internationally. I already have marked it down to two Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. I just don't know which one to get.

Creaky, you Lucky Man You!
absolutely, for me it's 'ultra sexy' 'Verbatim TY' ie Taiyo's with the real smart Verbatim matte finish, every time -
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/229523 then 'normal' Verbatim after that.

What are the differences between regular Taiyo Yudens and regular Verbatims? Why are Taiyo Yudens better?

Can anyone actually give me reason as to why Taiyo Yuden is better than Verbatim? I have not tried both, but I would like to start out and stick with the best media, because frankly I do not have the money to keep switching media just to see which one is better.

I believe it's just about choice mainly, that being said. Although I am a big fan of MCC003 Verbatim's(8x Data life Plus) I am just as fond of T02's (8x older T Yuden's) Sony's usually. I have to admit that in side by side burns after several hundred....maybe thousands, don't really count ha ha. The T02's are a little better than the MCC003's in most cases. I haven't been able to get any of the 16x TY's, but I suspect that's it's the same as the difference in the 8x and 16x Verbatim's...not quiet up to par with the older stuff. Now this is just a summation of my own experience between the two. In fact I probably use more 8x Taiyo Yuden now than anything else, but I still have about 60 of the MCC003 that I am more than confident in using. Hope this helps you in one way or another.

i felt like such a jerk man.
i wasted some of the mcc003 those data life you mentioned.
i used them to burned unimportant stuff. the reason i used it is because i want to use them u so i can stock up on the mcc004.
However, I only found out(at great cost) that those mcc003s are better then the 004s.

But I'm not using those. Im using the DVD-R ones, the DVD+R's are supposed to be the best. Should I still get Taiyo Yudens over Verbatim if I am using the DVD-R ones? I really don't know....

edit is the little pencil icon near top right of posts..
anyways, i personally have no issues with -R discs on any players i use, so don't discriminate between -r or +R. in fact i don't even bother to check what discs go in the burners most of the time, most of my burning is via Nero's 'multiple recorders' feature ie more than one burn at once, i often a -R in on drive and a +R (auto booktyped of course) in the other drive..

in MY OWN OPINION, when you are dealing with ONLY DVD-R format, i would ALWAYS choose the Taiyo Yudens over the Verbatims (in a heartbeat) and it's NOT because i'm TY-biased~ LOL
i've gone through a few hundred of the MCC Verbs in the DVD-R format, most of which burned and play fine to this day, however, my ratio of SUCCESSFUL burns to Taiyo Yuden (TYG01/TYG02/TYG03) compared to that of MCC Verbatims in the DVD-R format is quite staggering.
this is only an OPINION of mine from experience, not based on anything else other than what i have personally used in the years i have been burning...FOR ME, i can safely say in terms of QUALITY & COMPATIBILITY, you will be far fetched to find ANYTHING on the market better than the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R format (ie. TYG01/TYG02/TYG03 media ID coding) :) i would even go as far as saying the Maxell MIJ 8x DVD-R with the MXLRG03 coding (made by Hitachi) are superior to the Verbatim 8x DVD-R MCC02RG20 and far superior to the 16x DVD-R MCC03RG20. :)
if you haven't noticed yet, i'm not too fond of Verbatims in the DVD-R format, even after using a few hundred of the 8x & 16x rated dvd-rs i mentioned above. the DVD+R format, on the other hand, i have great results from the MCC003 (8x DVD+R), not so much with the MCC004 (16x DVD+R)...and to this day, NOTHING i have ever used has been better FOR ME than my 8x rated DVD+R Taiyo Yudens w/ the YUDEN000T02 coding, even the 16x DVD+R TYs YUDEN000T03s i have are not any "better" on MY setups. the 8x DVD+R TYs are MY PERSONAL favorite and will always be until i can find something "better," which is highly unlikely as i've easily tried at least 80% of ALL available media in the United States at one point or another :)

I agree with Doc! I just got my first YUDEN000T3s (16x, DVD+Rs). After more than 30 burns with these disks I can confirm the fact that the 8x, DVD+Rs (YUDEN000T2s) are much better than the T3s..... and I don't get close using the TYGx from scanning them........sooooo I agree that with kivory666 and his statement about the YUDEN000T2s. they are the best. at least according to my scans. Just my opinion..... I formulated from experience .... but I must admit that I don't have as many burns as Kivory666 has. My opinion anyway.

I don't really use the -R's, it's not a real reason behind it besides it's what I started burning and I believe in book typing so that's just about the only thing I use, but if I get a really good deal on the - R's I would snap them up, but as a rule of thumb I stick with the +R's. Oh and I agree the -R 8x Verbatim's I didn't have any kind of luck with.
