O.K., I'm in Taiwan and I came across a new DVD writer from Liteon.
I have not had any luck on finding anything on the web about this
drive. I decided to buy it anyway, since I'm leaving tomorrow.
Does anyone know anything about this drive? LiteOn LH-18A1P487C
The drive "claims" to perform:
18x for DVD+R
18x for DVD-R
12x for DVD-RAM
8x for DVD+RW
8x for DVD+R DL
8x for DVD-R DL
6x for DVD-RW
Thanks,
Robert

18x media didn't come out yet........ and if this is a new type of drive that burns 18x why isn't 16x listed on your write speeds? It should be! This advanced drive that burns at 18x should be downward compatible being able to write at all the speeds below 18x! Not just what is listed there. And why would the indutry make new DVD media when it's coming out with HD-DVD and Blu-ray DVDs? I would think that it would stop at 16x media! Just my opinion.

no I can't find anything about this drive, either. but as I said before... why can't it burn 16x? you claim to have a drive that will overburn to 18x .... seeing is believing!

When I get home, I'll install it in my system and see what happens.
Right now, all I can do is look at the wonderful box it came in.
But "proof is in the pudding" - saying IT can and DOING are two
different things. :)
