Hi all,

I'm having a problem with Nero that I can't find a solution to, and their tech support hasn't been able to solve for me.

* I format a DVD-RAM in my Panasonic DMR-EZ25 DVD recorder (not a computer thing, a thing under my TV).

* I copy various programs onto the DVD-RAM, and edit out the adverts.

* I then eject the disc and bring it upstairs to my PC.

* When I try to import the video into Nero, it fails to correctly respect the edits, and misses out the last chapter of each program.

* Thinking this might be a problem with Nero 6, I uninstall that and install the Nero 7 trial. Same problem.

* A different program (TMPGEnc DVD Author) however reads the data perfectly (same disc, same drive, same computer).

So, this to me looks like a bug in Neros DVD-RAM importing code. I contact tech support and get a message back saying that I need to finalise the disc before Nero can read it.

I am slightly surprised by this - I wasn't aware that finalisation was something that applied to DVD-RAMs. The DVD recorder downstairs will finalise all the different formats of DVD *except* DVD-RAM.

Nevertheless, I'm prepared to be wrong on this. Rather than giving me step by step instructions on how to do this, however, tech support mailed me a screenshot of Nero Express saying "do it like this".

Try as I might, I can't get my Nero Express to look like their screenshot - depending on the options chosen on previous screens I get a different selection of buttons, and in all cases so far it has refused to ungrey the 'Burn' button.

The mail also helpfully suggested that I try a DVD-RW instead of a DVD-RAM, rather neatly missing the point that full editing can only be achieved on DVD-RAMs (on my DVD recorder at least).

I replied to their tech support people asking for more information, and rather unhelpfully got an automated response telling me where I could get a serial number from. At the bottom of the mail I was told that if I mailed again I'd get a non-automated response.

So I mailed again, and got the *same* automated response, 3 times over.

I've replied *again*, but in desperation thought I'd ask here in case anyone can help me.

Has anyone tried to import edited video off a DVD-RAM into Nero before? Did you have any success?

Do I really need to 'fixate' the disc before I can read it? If so, how can I do that please?

I'd be very grateful for any help anyone can offer. Thanks,

Robin
