hello all, i need some help on this. i'm new to the updating of firmware. i have a lite-on sohd-167t dvd rom and would like to see if the firmware can be updated on it. i know nothing about doing this. can anyone walk me through what i need to do in updating it. if i have posted in the wrong place im sorry about that.

i found the firmware page and have found an update for it, but do not know what i need to do besides download the file. after i open it is there anything else i need to do to any other software to update my drive,or is downloading this update enough to get it going. any help would be great. i will wait for a respond before i downlaod anything. so i dont mess anything up.

thanks to all who respond to this post.

Hey,

Ok here are the steps.

1) Make sure there isn't a disk in your drive whilst running the update.
2) Do not run anything else whilst running the update; this includes virus/firewall software.
3) Leave it to do its job. A sucessful update usually take no more than 5 mins (dependant on your PC specs). If you're drive hangs on the update (does nothing), then you can render your drive useless and in a state of no return (they're fixable sometime though). This won't occur if you follow steps 1-2 :-)

Here is the update for your drive.

Just extract and run it! :-)

Here is a good place for the firmware, for your Liteon DVD-Rom.

I have 4 of these Rom drives and they run great with the 9S19 firmware. I have not had any reason to ugrade to the newer firmware.

If it's a DVDROM then you most likely won't need to... Cos you're not needing to read disks to burn to as it is a ROM drive and if you are reading burnt disks, then they might be booktyped to ROM anywho...

With the modified firmware, I still have no problems reading burned -r discs as well as +r discs that were not burned as DVD-Rom

In the past I have used CDRW/DVD-Rom drives to make copy of a copy
And would get a fail to burn message from Nero yet the burned copy would be fine. This was a false error message fron Nero.

With this drive I could make a copy of a copy from either a -R or a +R (not burned as a DVD-ROM) disc and get a perfect copy without the false error message

This is an very good drive. It has read everything I have thrown at it. It's a great drive right out of the box.
For friends and family, I flash the drive with modified firmware right out of the box, with no fear.
For customers, I leave it alone because it voids factory warranty.

For disc to disc copies on the fly, this is an excellent reader. IMHO.

If you are interested in flashing firmware , do some research here:

So it's not a ROM drive then? It's a DVD RW drive... ROM drives can't burn to disks, period.

when I make copies, I use the Liteon Dvd-Rom drive to read and I use a NEC DVD-RW drive to burn.
I burn on the fly. Disc to disc
The DVD-Rom is secondary on the Primary IDE Channel
The burner is the master on the Secondary IDE Channel

I never said a DVD-Rom drive can burn DVDs.
That would just be silly.
When I do disc to disc copies,I am speaking of non copyrighted DVDs
