Magic 3.1 not booting PS1

I purchased a Magic 3.1 chip off of Easybuy2000 and installed it myself. The chip boots original and back-up PS2 games, but when I tried a PS1 game, neither the original or backup would work. I'm sure these games work because I used them on my modded PS1. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem?
