I wrote this in an E-Mail for someone already who wanted to run Final Fantasy 7 on his PSP, so I figured i'd let some of the new people here at A.D. in on the new PS1 emulator. For this guide, I based it on Final Fantasy 7, but the guide pretty much applies for all other games.
IMPORTANT: You need a version 1.50 firmware PSP to run this. There are methods of running it on up to version 2.71, but 2.80 is not confirmed. Go to your PSP, go to the settings all the way on the left, and go down to System Settings. Go down to system information. If it says system software is version 1.50, you're good to go. If it's higher, and you bought it already loaded with version 2.60 or higher you CANNOT DOWNGRADE, yet you CAN RUN HOMEBREW.
For versions 2.0-2.71, use this : http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/806. Just run it, and once everything is set up, go to the photo section and it will run it.
If you have an actual copy of Final Fantasy 7, we need an ISO creator. I use Alcohol 120%. It's 90 dollars to buy it, so we'll just stick with a free trial ;), it's much more efficient. Scroll down to the download link, and install it on your computer: http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php Insert your Disc 1 into your computer, open Alcohol 120%, and click Image creating wizard. The only thing you will want to change is in the last step, save it to a place where you can get to it later. Also, where it says image type, drop down the box and click Standard ISO image. That's it! You've successfully created a backup for the first disc. The same procedure applies to making a backup of the second and third. Now, if you don't have a copy of it, you're going to have to resort to piracy, which is not allowed on AfterDawn, so I cannot help you there.
Next, we need to download the actual application we will be loading the PS1 ISO on. Download the latest version of PS1P from here: http://dl.qj.net/PS1P-Alpha-1-PSOne-emul...1451/catid/263. Extract it and you will have 2 folders: __SCE__ps1p and __SCE__ps1p%. Drag your FF7 ISO into the folder called __SCE__ps1p
Please note that you will also need the Playstation BIOS files to run this emulator, which I also cannot provide you with. I can, however tell you that they are named scph1001.bin, and you can enter that in any search engine (I.E. Google), and i'm sure you can find them on your own.
Now connect your PSP to your computer via a USB cable. Browse through the directory called PSP, go into the folder called GAME, and deposit the two folders (__SCE__ps1p and __SCE__ps1p%). Now if you're at version 1.50, go the the game tab and go to memory stick, and launch the program called PS1P. If you're running 2.0-2.71, browse into your photos and scroll through all your photos, and the eLoader will launch itself. Then, choose the file __SCE__ps1p, NOT __SCE__ps1p%, and it will run. Either way you'll get a screen prompting you to choose your ISO. Choose Final Fantasy 7 (or whatever you have named it) and hit circle. It will be slow, as it's not full speed, and there's no sound, but it's only an alpha version. Keep in mind that for Final Fantasy 7, the PSP can't handle it's opening sequence, so you'll have to use a PC-side emulator to get past the first scene. Once you've saved inside the first Mako Reactor on the PC-side, rename the files epsxe000.mcr and epsxe001.mcr to mcd001.mcr and mcd002.mcr and place them in your __SCE__ps1p folder.
Then it should load at the Mako reactor. View the readme for more extensive information concerning the controls, emulator clock speed, and save states.
