slow down dvd movies and writes disk only at 0.8 when my dvd disc can do up to 8X. it happend quet a few time.. called hp and they fixed it guiding me somhow..then it happend again like few months later then again and after that i'm out of guarantee.

Check and make sure your drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Here's a link.
